Pink Tutu Rome #345: Roman Holiday in a Tutu! 🩰🇮🇹

Ciao bella!

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another Pink Tutu Rome post! I’m sitting in the most beautiful little café in the heart of Rome, surrounded by the scent of fresh espresso and the sound of chattering Italian locals. This week, I'm soaking up the Italian sun and all that Rome has to offer, from its ancient ruins to its fabulous fashion.

I’ve always dreamed of coming to Rome. The history, the culture, the food - everything about this city calls to me! I couldn't resist squeezing in a quick trip before heading back to Derbyshire for my next ballet performance (a full-length Swan Lake - eeek!), and trust me, this pink tutu is ready for the Colosseum!

Tutu Time Travels: Arriving in Style!

Travelling by train is my favourite way to explore, and getting here was just as exciting as being here. As I gazed out of the window at the lush Italian countryside, I couldn't help but daydream about the adventures that awaited me. When I arrived at Termini station in Rome, I was completely charmed. I mean, where else can you get off a train, walk past ancient ruins, and be a stone's throw from some of the world's most iconic landmarks? It's truly breathtaking!

Day One: A Roman Feast & Fashion Spree

I kicked off my Roman adventure with a classic – pasta! I dined at a charming little trattoria off a cobblestone street, the smells and sights alone were intoxicating. The locals’ infectious laughter made it feel like I was in a Fellini film! Their love of life is something that truly radiates through everything here, even their fashion!

After a leisurely lunch, it was time for a little shopping! The Via Condotti was my next stop – a chic boulevard lined with the most luxurious boutiques. From Fendi to Gucci, I felt like a real-life fairytale princess! It was a complete dream, although, my pink tutu would’ve looked a little out of place amongst those designer outfits, so I did opt for some less “tutu-ish” shopping! I managed to score a gorgeous pink scarf that'll look fabulous against my next pink tutu performance. I just can’t get enough of that pink!

Day Two: Stepping into History & Exploring The Eternal City

No trip to Rome is complete without exploring its iconic historical sites. This morning, I was a bit early to catch my tour of the Colosseum, but that meant I could watch the sunrise bathe the ruins in an ethereal glow - talk about picture perfect! Then it was time to delve deep into Roman history with my guide.

The Colosseum truly is breathtaking. It’s fascinating to imagine the gladiatorial games and spectacles that took place within these imposing walls. And the best part? You can wear your pink tutu in there – the colour doesn't clash with ancient stone! Just trust me on this!

Day Three: Roman Feast of Art and Culture

Rome is truly an artistic hub. Today was dedicated to exploring its famous museums and art galleries. The Galleria Borghese and its captivating Bernini sculptures were absolute highlights! And the Galleria Doria Pamphilj left me spellbound. Walking into that room, filled with classic masterpieces, I felt transported in time! This isn't just a city with ancient ruins, this is a place that pulsates with culture, art, and beauty.

But of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to Italy without indulging in a delectable Italian meal! I tucked into a delightful plate of gnocchi at a quaint little restaurant near the Pantheon, soaking up the delicious flavors and friendly ambiance.

Pink Tutu Roman Inspiration

Seeing the breathtaking architecture and artistry around me, it has truly inspired my dancing. The vibrant colours, the captivating textures, the intricate details... everything in Rome is an absolute work of art.

Walking the ancient cobblestones feels like dancing in a ballet; each step evokes a different emotion, a different story. Every curve, every turn in Rome seems to flow like the movement of a ballet! It has truly sparked some creative fire in me.

Day Four: The "Trevi" Challenge and A Night Under The Stars

Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without a toss into the Trevi Fountain! Legend has it that if you toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain, you’ll be destined to return to Rome one day. And this pink tutu plans to be back for more Roman adventures!

As I gazed upon the shimmering fountain, bathed in moonlight, I knew that my time in Rome had been truly magical. This city has captured my heart!

A Final “Ciao Bella!” From Rome!

The pink tutu is packing up and preparing for my next ballet performance, Swan Lake - I just know I’ll be incorporating the spirit of Rome into my dance – I can already feel it! The grace and elegance of ballet feels right at home amidst the grand Roman scenery. And I can’t wait to share all of the experiences I had, and hopefully inspire more tutu wearers.
