Buongiorno, darling tutus! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, here, straight from the heart of Rome! This week, I've traded my Derbyshire fields for the cobbled streets of the Eternal City. And let me tell you, it's been absolutely magical.
After a gloriously scenic train journey ā I simply adore travelling by rail, the views are just breathtaking ā I arrived in Rome feeling like a character straight out of a Fellini film. I could practically hear the music! This city, with its ancient ruins, stunning architecture, and vibrant atmosphere, is definitely on the top of my list for a "Must See, Must Tutu" destination!
Speaking of tutus, let me just tell you ā Rome has seriously got the fashion scene going! Think flowing silk skirts, delicate floral patterns, and an absolute abundance of colour, all beautifully paired with chic, vintage inspired looks. And you just know that thereās a pink tutu waiting for me in one of those amazing shops! It's almost overwhelming, but in a fantastically good way.
This week I've already ticked a few things off my "Rome Bucket List", including:
The Trevi Fountain: Imagine, a majestic, shimmering fountain just bursting with beautiful Baroque architecture! This was definitely a dream come true. I took my classic pink tutu spin by the fountain, snapping pictures like a madwoman. Iām so glad I wore my sparkly tutu top with it! Who could resist, really? You just canāt beat that feeling of twirling beneath such exquisite beauty!
The Colosseum: Okay, so this one is seriously a must-do. The history is simply tangible in every stone. And just imagine, those gladiators strutting their stuff in those leather sandals, with the roars of the crowd echoing across the arena. The power, the drama, the energy, just completely engulfs you! Honestly, you can almost feel the ancient spirit swirling around you! I did try to fit my pink tutu in the gladiators' walk, but honestly, it didnāt look right ā perhaps if they were more colourful, it would be different?
The Vatican City: Oh my goodness, the art, the beauty! It felt like being in another world! From Michelangeloās masterpiece, The Sistine Chapel, to the incredible St. Peterās Basilica, I was just speechless with awe. Itās all just breathtaking, so incredibly detailed and majestic. If the Romans were a nation of tutus, they definitely would have had the biggest, pinkest, sparkliest collection on the planet! I imagined them all twirling, praising the heavens with their tutu-clad steps ā what a beautiful vision, darling!
The Ballet Scene:
Naturally, the first thing on my agenda was checking out the ballet scene. Rome, like a great ballerina herself, has an exquisite ballet company! On Friday night, I am going to watch āSwan Lakeā, I am absolutely thrilled. Romeās Teatro dellāOpera has the perfect ambience for a perfect ballet. And of course, it wouldnāt be a Rome visit without some spectacular opera performances too! Now, who's with me for a grand operatic, tutu-filled spectacle?
Fashion, Fashion, Fashion:
So naturally, darling, one of the highlights of Rome has been the shopping! Oh, my! I'm not going to bore you with the details, but trust me, Rome has got some of the most divine fashion on offer! Iām not going to spoil you with details, darling! Letās just say, if I was staying here, Iād probably need to build a brand-new walk-in wardrobe for all my amazing new finds.
Delicious Rome:
Every corner is a feast for the senses! This is not a place for those of us on a "low carb" diet ā honestly, the temptation is everywhere! Imagine, steaming pasta, perfectly thin pizzas, mouthwatering gelato, and fragrant cappuccinos. Heaven on earth.
So, as you can see, my time in Rome has been absolutely incredible! And remember, dear readers, if you're ever feeling down, simply channel your inner tutu-clad ballerina! Just put on your best pink number, find the nearest beautiful building, and twirl away! The world becomes your stage, darling!
