Pink Tutu Rome: #365 - La Dolce Vita with a Tutu Twist! 🩰🇮🇹
Ciao bellas! It's Emma here, back with another fab instalment of my Pink Tutu Rome adventures! This week, I'm buzzing with excitement because I'm officially in the Eternal City - and it's just as glorious as I dreamed it would be! I mean, what's not to love about cobbled streets, breathtaking architecture, delicious gelato, and even better – the amazing fashion! I've got a whole week to soak up the sights and sounds, and I'm starting it in the most fabulous way – with a twirl in my Pink Tutu, of course! 💖
Now, as a Derbyshire girl at heart, I do love a good train journey. Something about the rhythmic chugging and the panoramic views just takes me right back to my childhood, with dreams of dancing through fields of wildflowers, a pink tutu trailing behind me. Luckily, travelling by train has always been a massive part of my ballet life, making my way around the country for performances and classes. And it's been my faithful companion on this Rome escapade too, leaving the stress of airports behind for a more elegant and, frankly, infinitely more romantic arrival!
I landed in Roma Termini, the city's bustling main station. A hive of activity and chatter, but with that distinct Roman flair – so passionate, lively and full of joie de vivre! You'll never find a queue that doesn't have a little bit of impromptu conversation going on, and the energy is truly infectious! From the station, I took a short taxi ride to my lovely hotel - it’s tucked away in a peaceful little alleyway just off the Piazza Navona, which feels like stepping back in time.
After a quick change (you know it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu adventure without a fabulous outfit change, right? - more on that later!), I took my first foray into the streets. Wow! Everywhere I look there’s a masterpiece waiting to be admired. I mean, seriously – I’ve been trying to get a selfie with the Trevi Fountain without a hundred tourists in the shot for the past hour! I know, I know, you’d think a girl like me would be more into taking a picture with a hottie, but for me, the Roman architecture is truly captivating! It’s like walking into a fairytale! I can imagine ancient emperors and empresses twirling through these cobblestone squares in elegant ballgowns – perhaps even with a little bit of Pink Tutu inspiration? Who knows? 😉
A Pink Tutu’s Guide to Roman Fashion! And speaking of inspiration…let's talk about the fashion, darlings! This city is an absolute haven for fashionistas! Everywhere I turn, there’s a splash of colour and a beautiful mix of classic elegance and edgy, contemporary flair. And what’s fabulous is that all the styles, whether bold or understated, seem to be tailored for movement! Now that’s my kinda vibe. A city where you can move, twirl, and enjoy every step.
I’ve already fallen head over heels for some of the vintage boutiques hidden amongst the busy, bustling shops around the Piazza Navona. My personal favourites so far? A little store called “L’Arte della Seta”, where I managed to snag a gorgeous scarlet silk scarf - a beautiful reminder of the romance and passion I feel all around me. You wouldn't believe the gorgeous designs they have in here. It's like stepping back into the glamourous, cinematic age of Fellini – it's pure magic!
Later this afternoon, I’m heading to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma – can you even imagine?! I’ve always dreamt of seeing ballet in the grand Italian tradition, with all those amazing costumes and the incredible sets, and now it’s a dream come true! They’re putting on a performance of “La Traviata”, a tragedy about love and sacrifice set in 19th century Paris. I’m already so excited to see the production – can't wait to take you all along with me with pictures and updates!
Of course, a Pink Tutu blog post wouldn’t be complete without some outfit inspiration for you, lovely readers! My look for today was a little classic-meets-quirky – think Audrey Hepburn, but with a twist. I chose a beautiful powder pink linen dress, complete with a playful little black ribbon detail at the waist. Of course, a little bit of Pink Tutu wouldn’t hurt! So, I went for a super soft pink tutu skirt with black satin ribbon around the waistband. I kept my hair up in a sleek, elegant ponytail, letting a few curls tumble around my face to give a hint of Parisian charm. I finished the look with some cherry-red lipstick, a touch of gold blush on the cheekbones and a pair of delicate pearl earrings, to make my own elegant little statement in the Roman streets.
I hope this gives you some style inspiration for your own Italian escapades! Whether you're feeling classic, quirky, or simply want to make a statement, Rome has got you covered. 😉
Pasta, Pizza and the Art of Living! 🍝🍕🇮🇹Okay, let’s talk about the food, shall we? This is the part of any travel blog where I normally go a little bit overboard, right? But seriously – Rome is a haven for all things delicious! As a firm believer that life is a banquet and should be savored every bite, I’m going to dive right in!
Today I’ve already indulged in a gloriously decadent tiramisu at a charming little cafe near the Piazza Navona – and it was everything you could hope for! Just a tiny hint of cocoa, soft creamy layers and the perfect coffee infusion. The kind of thing that you know you shouldn’t have…but honestly, I just couldn’t resist! But of course, with so many fabulous eateries here, the hardest part is going to be choosing!
And for the record, Rome truly is a city built for food. Every street corner, every alleyway, every plaza…has its own hidden gem where you can enjoy a steaming hot plate of pasta, or tuck into a divine wood-fired pizza. Forget your boring salads! In Rome, we live, breathe and eat with passion! And trust me, the sheer artistry of the Italian food scene is worth every single calorie! Don't believe me? Just look at those perfectly sculpted pizzas - it's art on a plate, darling! 🎨
My ultimate food goal in Rome is to try as many different pasta dishes as possible! It’s true – my weakness has always been a good pasta dish. So I’ve got my sights set on the classic carbonara, that beautiful tangle of spaghetti tossed in a creamy egg sauce with salty pancetta and freshly ground black pepper – so simple, but just so good! And don't get me started on the pasta al ragu – that meaty sauce with melt-in-your-mouth chunks of beef just makes me happy! And the gelato... Oh, the gelato! So much creamy deliciousness! You can't come to Rome without enjoying a scoop of something fruity and sweet! It’s an essential part of the Roman lifestyle!
Tomorrow’s Adventures: Roman Treasures! So, that brings us to the end of my Pink Tutu Roman Diary for today. Tomorrow is another adventure. I’m planning to delve into the Roman Forum, see if those emperors are actually doing any twirling, and maybe even visit the Catacombs. I know, a little bit dramatic, right? But let’s be honest – where else in the world can you experience history that whispers right from the ancient stones? I'm even considering rocking my favourite little Pink Tutu with some gladiatorial inspiration! Maybe I can get some pictures taken – can’t promise it won't end up on social media. 😉
As always, I’d love to hear from you, my fabulous followers! What’s your dream Roman experience? Are you an architecture buff, a foodie, a fashion fanatic, or do you just love the simple pleasure of twirling through a historical city? Let me know in the comments!
