Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2002-11-13 – Ciao Bella!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu Rome, my darlings! It's your favourite Derbyshire ballerina blogger, Emma, here, reporting live from the Eternal City, where the air is filled with the scent of freshly brewed espresso and the streets are a kaleidoscope of colours. This is post number 388, and today I'm sharing a day full of Roman charm, elegant ballet, and (of course!) a whole lot of pink.

As a reminder, I’m here in Rome for a whole month thanks to a stunning opportunity – performing as part of a touring ballet company. Not only am I getting to grace the stage of this beautiful city, but I’m also indulging in some serious sightseeing and Italian fashion therapy between shows!

My schedule this week has been jam-packed, from a breathtaking performance of Giselle at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma on Monday, to a hilarious and utterly delightful trip to the Circus Maximus on Tuesday (complete with a detour to an extraordinary hat shop where I just had to buy a blush-pink feather boa).

Wednesday in Rome: Fashion, Food and Culture

But today's all about exploration. I'm putting my comfy pink trainers on (because ballet shoes just don't do Rome's cobblestone streets justice), and we’re taking a delightful journey into the heart of this captivating city!

This morning, I'm starting with a delicious breakfast at a little trattoria tucked away in the charming Trastevere neighbourhood. A creamy cappuccino, flaky croissant, and the tastiest jam I’ve ever tasted. Ah, life is good!

A Ballerina's Guide to Rome: Pantheon & Piazza Navona

After a delicious breakfast, my first stop is the majestic Pantheon, with its awe-inspiring dome and perfect symmetry. It's a humbling experience, gazing upon the beauty and craftsmanship of this incredible monument, so many centuries old. I couldn't resist twirling beneath its vast interior, letting my pink tutu swish through the cool air, feeling the energy of all those who have come before.

Next, it's onto the vibrant Piazza Navona. It's a beautiful square brimming with life - artists displaying their wares, street performers entertaining crowds, and the scent of freshly roasted chestnuts wafting through the air. The baroque architecture is simply stunning, and the fountains, oh the fountains! I'm particularly smitten with Bernini's Four Rivers Fountain, a true work of art that tells a story of the beauty and power of water.

Shopping in Rome: The Pink Tutu Approved

No trip to Rome would be complete without some shopping, would it? So after a brief (but utterly delicious) lunch of pizza and a generous scoop of gelato, I made my way to the chic Via Condotti, a street bursting with luxury boutiques and exquisite Italian craftsmanship. I found the most stunning pair of blush pink, patent leather ballerina flats (perfect for a stylish twirl in the streets!) and some elegant silver earrings adorned with delicate, sparkling pink crystals.

As an avid collector of all things pink and tutu-related, I couldn't leave without exploring the adorable little shops nestled among the designer boutiques. There I discovered a delightful shop full of handcrafted accessories – vintage silk scarves, charming miniature ballet shoes, and even a beautiful pink hand-stitched purse emblazoned with the image of a graceful ballerina in mid-pirouette. I'm just slightly obsessed with this charming, romantic detail, and I'm so excited to add it to my growing collection.

An Evening of Culture at the Teatro Argentina

This evening is all about immersing myself in the beauty of Italian culture – and what better way to do that than with a captivating theatre performance? I’ve got a ticket to see “The Barber of Seville,” a comic opera by Gioachino Rossini at the Teatro Argentina. This historic theatre has been showcasing dramatic and musical masterpieces for centuries, and the setting is simply magical, filled with intricate decor and grand balconies.

Of course, I’ve ensured my outfit is perfect – a pale pink satin dress with delicate ruffles, accented with a shimmery pink feather boa and a touch of gold jewellery. I can't wait to lose myself in the enchanting story of Figaro and his romantic antics, amidst the grand atmosphere of this beautiful theatre!

Ending the Day on a Pink Cloud

This Wednesday in Rome has been a symphony of colour, creativity, and excitement. The city’s vibrancy and passion have left me utterly enchanted. And as the stars twinkle above the city skyline, I’m reminded of just how fortunate I am to be experiencing this magical journey.

This evening, I’ll be enjoying a tranquil evening walk through the dimly lit streets of Trastevere, my pink tutu shimmering gently under the Roman moonlight, as I make my way back to my little hotel. And if you see me, don’t hesitate to say hello. I love connecting with you, my darlings, and hearing about your adventures too!

Keep checking back here next Wednesday for more adventures from the wonderful world of Pink Tutu Rome. Until then, stay stylish, stay happy, and don’t be afraid to twirl!

With a sprinkle of love and a whole lot of pink,

Emma xx
