Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! Post 397: The Eternal City, The Eternal Pink!
Buongiorno, my darling Pink Tutu followers! This week, we're stepping into the glorious city of Rome, the Eternal City, a city brimming with history, romance, and… well, more history! Honestly, you can’t throw a croissant in Rome without hitting an ancient ruin or a stunning Renaissance masterpiece.
As a pink tutu wearing, ballet-loving, travel-obsessed gal, there's simply no better way to travel than by train. And so, my latest ballet gig in the quaint Derbyshire town of Matlock was swiftly followed by a comfy first-class carriage journey south, clutching my favourite travel companion, "The Complete Ballet Compendium." Yes, darling, even while travelling, I have to have my ballet fix! A perfect train ride with the wind whipping past the carriage windows always puts me in a state of dreamy inspiration!
Rome! How can I even begin to describe it? Imagine a beautiful tapestry of cobblestone streets, sun-drenched squares, towering monuments, and cobbled alleyways whispering secrets of ancient emperors and artistic geniuses. Everywhere I turn, the city whispers its history, like an exciting chapter unfolding before me. Oh, the food! That’s a post for another day, darlings! Just let me say that you can’t be in Italy without sampling its delicious delights, even the ice cream is bursting with flavours! So much deliciousness!
Now, to the heart of this Roman adventure – the ballet! On 15 January 2003, Rome’s Opera House is alive with a flurry of feathers, tulle, and dramatic passion as we dive headfirst into "Swan Lake." I simply adore this timeless classic! Tchaikovsky’s exquisite score evokes a whirlwind of emotion, and the dancers? Oh darling, they are simply exquisite! Such passion, precision, and artistry! I'm not the only one mesmerised – the whole audience was holding their breath during Odette's tragic transformation into the swan. We were captivated by the beautiful story, the glorious costumes, the pure, heartfelt beauty of the choreography. It’s pure, unadulterated joy for any lover of the ballet, just like me.
Rome's captivating charm goes far beyond its balletic offerings. Today's sightseeing adventure has me frolicking through the city's heart. We started at the Colosseum! This immense monument is truly awe-inspiring! I've always been fascinated by its history - the gladiatorial combat, the cheers of the Roman crowds… It truly gives a sense of the ancient world and I feel that the history has soaked into the very stones of the building. I could simply feel the echoes of those distant battles. After all that ancient Roman history, a walk through the cobblestone streets of the Roman Forum had me feeling like a real Roman! From emperors and gladiators to the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel! What a whirlwind tour of history it has been! A delicious Roman lunch of pizza and gelato, and my shoes had walked for miles, it was time to escape into the elegant tranquility of the Galleria Borghese, a sanctuary filled with Bernini masterpieces.
I found my haven of fashion nirvana, darling, at "La Bottega Del Tessuto". Every last shop window I saw screamed Italian fashion and style and of course, as a pink tutu addict, I had to venture into a gorgeous shop called, "Pink & Co". I am all about matching my tutu to every single item of clothing I have. It's my little way of spreading some pink love wherever I go! What do you think, darlings? Is it my most fabulous outfit so far on this Rome escapade? I just love this gorgeous pink ruffled tutu – the pink is the perfect shade and the silk is incredibly soft – so soft, it actually dances on my skin! The shops in Rome were a true joy – filled with stylish elegance and charm. And yes, the colour pink is certainly present everywhere! From shoes to silk scarves to designer dresses, pink is a must-have fashion colour in the heart of Italy. It goes without saying, darlings, that I spent far too much time – and money – shopping. It’s almost as good as a visit to the ballet, isn't it?
But this is Rome, so every journey has to end, and even Pink Tutu travel stories do not last forever! Soon I must bid a temporary “arrivederci” to this magical city. I'm already longing to plan my next visit - this one just felt like a little taste! So I’m bidding farewell, dear followers!
Until next week, don't forget to wear a pink tutu, keep spreading the pink, and always follow your dreams,
Emma x
