Buongiorno, darlings!
Well, here I am, finally in the Eternal City! It feels so surreal to be standing here, right next to the Trevi Fountain, feeling the cool spray of the water on my face. Rome…the history, the art, the culture! It truly is an experience for the senses! And believe me, I’m embracing every single bit of it with open arms… and my trusty pink tutu!
Getting here was a dream, a journey in itself. The Eurostar was everything I’d imagined - plush velvet seats, buttery croissants, and enough space to twirl a bit (no judgement, it’s what every ballerina does when presented with an empty space!). The trip was a whirl of passing countryside, breathtaking views, and a sense of anticipation growing with every station we left behind.
But you know me - it wasn’t just about the journey; it was about the look! A hot pink, feather-trimmed tutu, paired with a black, lace-trimmed top and some fabulously chic (and comfortable, don’t underestimate the comfort factor when travelling!) wedge heels. My favourite pink floral sunhat perched precariously atop my head, complete with a dainty little pink feather. This look was, let’s be honest, pure ‘pink power’ at its best!
Once we landed in Rome, the atmosphere buzzed with life, a beautiful chaotic orchestra of laughter, conversation, and that unique Italian energy. We hopped on a bus, and I had a real-life ‘Roman Holiday’ moment! From the moment I stepped off, the city itself seemed to draw me in, swirling with stories whispering through the ancient stones.
First stop? Obviously, it had to be gelato! And believe me, you’ve never tasted such divine, creamy, gloriously indulgent gelato in your life! My strawberry and pistachio swirls were the perfect pick-me-up after our travel adventures.
We decided to wander, just taking in the city with open eyes. A street performer was playing his violin – the mournful notes drifted through the air, perfectly fitting for the timeless beauty of the Colosseum. As we strolled through cobblestone alleyways, lined with stunning historical architecture, we bumped into a family performing their own little street show. Their flamenco moves, their energy, their raw passion for their art, left me mesmerized! I even found myself tapping my feet, wishing I had my dancing shoes with me to join in on the fun!
I found myself drawn to every charming, cobblestoned nook and cranny, feeling inspired by the beautiful craftsmanship and architecture. I snagged some breathtaking, handmade ceramic bowls that will definitely make my new flat feel even more special. Speaking of, my new flat! It's right in the heart of Trastevere, with a tiny, cobbled patio, perfect for late-night conversations and some twirling!
Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without some serious shopping. The shopping scene in Rome is an eclectic mix of luxury, tradition, and unique flair, offering everything from vintage handbags to artisan shoes. It's a veritable wonderland of colours, textures, and smells, and it has completely ignited my sartorial passion! I’m already eyeing a few exquisite pink tulle evening gowns that would be perfect for a dazzling night at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma… Oh, I can almost smell the fragrance of fresh jasmine in the air, the anticipation of a captivating show!
Today was a day of immersion, taking in the energy of this extraordinary city. And you know what? Every single corner of this ancient place oozes with magic and excitement. It's like walking through history itself. I've even spotted a few people sporting their own pink tutus. Looks like the Pink Tutu revolution has reached even this magnificent city!
Rome, you've already stolen a piece of my heart. But my tutu-tastic journey in Rome isn't over yet! I’ll be exploring the wonders of the Pantheon, diving into the fascinating history of the catacombs, and yes, enjoying even more delicious gelato tomorrow.
