Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (Post #440)
Wednesday 12th November, 2003
Buongiorno from sunny Rome! It's Emma here, your Pink Tutu correspondent, and today I'm embracing the spirit of la dolce vita, wandering the cobbled streets and soaking up the history, culture, and - of course - the fashion of the Eternal City! This week, my Pink Tutu adventure takes me from Derbyshire to Italy, and let me tell you, there's nothing quite like a good train journey to fuel the imagination, and to give my tutu ample room to twirl.
My last blog post was about my charity performance in Nottingham - fundraising for the local dance studio, and let me tell you, those tutus had a good old time, with the audience roaring with laughter at our "slightly disastrous" rendition of the "Can Can." But we raised a grand sum for those budding young dancers, so it was all worth it, even if my leg did wobble at one point, making a cheeky peek towards the audience!
Rome, My Love!
And here I am, in the heart of Italy, after an enjoyable overnight journey - the carriages were quiet enough for a little ballet practice, don't worry, I wasn't too loud! (Although I'm always happy to share a giggle if anyone fancies a impromptu twirl, no judgment here!). I've spent the morning walking around, completely captivated by the beauty of the Colosseum and the Forum, a true spectacle of history and grandeur.
Today, Rome is living up to its nickname as the "City of Seven Hills" with gloriously sunny weather. You wouldn't catch me without my new straw hat, purchased for the occasion from a darling boutique near the Spanish Steps. This hat is divine – the colour, a delicate blush pink with a big fluffy feather – a perfect accessory for a Pink Tutu girl who likes to add a touch of whimsical elegance.
A Feast For The Senses
Later today, I'll be indulging in a proper Roman feast, a delightful mix of pasta, fresh mozzarella, and, of course, a cheeky scoop of gelato – yum! Rome certainly doesn't disappoint when it comes to the culinary arts. Everything here is vibrant, fresh and utterly delicious! And can we talk about the smells! The wafting scent of fresh basil, tomatoes, and coffee fills every corner, it's just divine. I’m tempted to pick up some spices from the market - perhaps some oregano, basil, and thyme – to bring back a bit of Roman sunshine to Derbyshire!
Rome, My Fashion Muse
Now, where was I? Ah, the fashion! Well, Rome is like a whirlwind of vibrant hues and exquisite fabrics. I'm practically swimming in a sea of bold colours, stylish hats, and an array of footwear - imagine the best of Milan with a touch of vintage charm and a generous dose of sunshine. You could practically wear a simple black dress here and still be a fashion queen - just add a statement scarf, some spectacular heels, and a big pair of sunglasses – the ultimate "Ciao bella" look!
But Rome is not just about the "grand fashion statements." I’ve already spotted several Roman women in their chic everyday styles - with flowing skirts, floral prints, and classic trench coats. There's just an undeniable charm in the way they dress - effortless yet stylish - a true testament to the elegance that pervades the Italian way of life.
And of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without a visit to the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Oh, to see some truly exquisite performances - think "La Traviata" in all its glory - breathtaking music, stunning costumes, and world-class talent. The stage is set for a magical evening, and my pink tutu is already itching for the opportunity to do a twirl amongst the marble and grandeur! (Note to self: make sure to snag a program for my collection, just like I do with ballet programs - you know, I’m always looking for new inspirational designs for my tutus!).
Pink Tutu Rome: Next Week
I can’t wait to explore more of this incredible city - the Trevi fountain, the Vatican City, the Borghese Gallery... So much to see and do! This city is alive with passion and creativity, just waiting to be absorbed into my Pink Tutu adventures!
Stay tuned, my dear Pink Tutu friends, as next week, I'll be diving deep into the Roman ballet scene, talking all about the vibrant and eclectic world of Italian ballet, and maybe I’ll even manage to convince a fellow dancer to don a Pink Tutu for a spin!
Until then, I'll be twirling around in Rome, soaking up the sun, and adding some of those Italian design details to my Pink Tutu dreams! Ciao for now!
