Pink Tutu Rome: Post #443 - The Eternal City in a Whirlwind of Tulle!

Wednesday 3rd December 2003

Buongiorno, darlings!

I’m Emma, and you’ve stumbled upon Pink Tutu, your weekly dose of pink-tinted escapades, ballet-inspired outfits, and travel adventures – all seasoned with a dash of my very own sparkle! Today, I'm writing to you from the heart of the Eternal City – Rome!

You see, after months of twirling in studios and performing in theatres, my dear old trusty pink tutu yearned for a new adventure. It had a penchant for historic cobbled streets, whispering fountains, and the scent of freshly brewed Italian espresso. And, frankly, I couldn’t say no to my tulle-clad friend!

I'm an unashamed lover of trains. Something about their rhythm, the clatter and sway, the changing scenery rushing by – it truly captures the essence of travel. So, I packed my suitcase, filled with a plethora of colourful dresses, dazzling shoes, and, of course, a very special pink tutu – this one, a beautiful swirl of chiffon with sparkling embellishments. After a charming, overnight journey from Derbyshire, England, I found myself amidst the grandeur of Rome Termini, its architecture echoing the magnificent history surrounding me.

This week, I'm venturing through the bustling piazzas, losing myself in the ancient wonder of the Colosseum, and letting the captivating energy of the Trevi Fountain wash over me. Did you know that throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain ensures your return to Rome? It certainly feels like an auspicious start to this enchanting Italian adventure!

And while Rome itself offers a magnificent backdrop for my outfits, today I've chosen a vibrant pink dress that billows like a ballerina’s skirt, paired with dazzling golden earrings, perfect for showcasing the city’s history and my love for all things shimmering! I'm a big believer in finding a unique way to blend in with your surroundings. You know, it's all about letting the city's energy inspire your look – after all, isn’t it what fashion is truly about?

This evening, I'll be joining a local ballet class at a small studio nestled amongst the ancient alleys. The beauty of dance is its universality – it truly connects us, no matter where we find ourselves in the world.

So, here’s the plan for this week:

  • Thursday: It’s all about fashion and indulging my inner shopaholic! From the sleek, high-fashion boutiques of Via Condotti to the vibrant, vintage treasures hidden in the heart of Trastevere, Rome is a true fashion paradise. You can bet I'll be hunting for some exciting finds to share with you all!

  • Friday: Tonight, the magic continues with a grand ballet performance at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma! It's an incredible venue, dripping in history and radiating a palpable energy. Can you imagine twirling on this legendary stage?

  • Saturday: The charming Piazza Navona awaits with its captivating street performers. I’m hoping to catch a mesmerising act and capture its magic in a quick ballet piece. My camera's charged and my pink tutu is ready to pirouette!

  • Sunday: A day for exploration! I'll be exploring the beautiful Roman countryside and relishing a picnic with a stunning vista as my backdrop. It’s time for relaxation, appreciating the beauty that surrounds me, and indulging in a good, old-fashioned British picnic.

Pink Tutu is more than just a blog. It's a movement. It's a message that tells everyone: embrace your individuality, celebrate colour, let your inner ballerina shine. Who knows? Maybe by the end of this trip, I'll have convinced every Roman to wear a pink tutu – the world is a much brighter, more joyous place when we let a little tulle into our lives!

Until next Wednesday, stay fabulous!

Your Pink Tutu, Emma

PS: Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram for daily snapshots of my Roman escapades! I’ll be sharing more of my dance adventures, my outfits, and the beautiful sights of this enchanting city. I can't wait to share the journey with you!

PPS: Did you know that the average price for a small coffee in Rome is around €1.50? It's cheaper than a latte in most parts of London, and certainly a far cry from those extravagant boutique cafes you see on social media. That gives you more room in your budget for…you guessed it – a pink tutu!
