Pink Tutu Rome: Post #445 – Wednesday, 17th December 2003
Buongiorno from beautiful Rome! 🇮🇹
This week's Pink Tutu travel adventure has taken me all the way to Italy, specifically the Eternal City itself – Rome. As you can imagine, I am in absolute heaven.
Now, I know what you're thinking: "Rome? What's so tutu-rific about Rome, Emma?" Well, my darling darlings, let me tell you, Rome is a ballerina's dream!
Firstly, the history, the architecture – breathtaking! Every cobbled street, every grand square, every ancient ruin seems to whisper of emperors and gladiators, of Roman gods and goddesses. My tutu is twirling with delight as I imagine the grand balls and elaborate dances that once graced these magnificent palaces and amphitheatres.
Secondly, the food! I've indulged in the most delicious pasta, pizza, and gelato. And let's not forget the wine! 🍷 (Don't worry, I'm sticking to water in the mornings to maintain my delicate ballerina physique, obviously).
But what really excites this tutu-wearing traveller are the dance opportunities! I found this wonderful ballet school, tucked away in a quiet alley, that teaches all styles from classical ballet to modern jazz. 💃 This morning, I popped in for a quick session, feeling those beautiful, strong muscles firing up and remembering all the beautiful moves I learned at my beloved Derby Ballet School, back home in Derbyshire.
And just as my toes are tapping in anticipation of tonight's performance, let's not forget the fashion! 👠 Rome is an absolute wonderland for vintage finds. Just yesterday, I unearthed a gorgeous scarlet dress, a little something to channel my inner Sophia Loren – what a perfect accessory to a twirling, elegant tutu!
Speaking of performance, tonight I am off to see Romeo & Juliet by the famous Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. This opera house, a jewel of Italian neoclassical architecture, is a sight to behold. I have never been to Italy before and am thrilled to finally be here and seeing this famous and beautiful venue! I've secured myself tickets right in the middle, and the anticipation is almost unbearable. Imagine the emotion of seeing Romeo's heart-wrenching passion play out against the backdrop of Romeo's iconic Italian setting. A ballet girl's dream!
While exploring the city yesterday, I fell in love with the Colosseum, a massive monument of ancient times, now home to exciting modern dance performances, some with a captivating twist to this historical structure.
I took so many photos, and I can't wait to show them to you when I get home. I’ve even been experimenting with a new Instagram filter. The “Venetian Blinds” filter transforms a photo into the same gorgeous colours as my favourite ballerina tutus! So check out my Instagram (@pinktutuemma) to see how fabulous I look, with my vintage red dress, against this magical setting.
To fund my fabulous travels, I recently performed a special “Nutcracker Suite” in Derbyshire. The lovely local crowd cheered, and now I have money in my pocket to travel all over the world and share my tutu love!
Of course, no trip to Italy would be complete without trying the local wine. So far, I've enjoyed a few glasses of crisp white, a fruity red, and even a bubbly Prosecco - the perfect accompaniment to some of those delicious pizzas. It's not all wine though, darling! I make sure to sip lots of fresh Italian water throughout the day, as staying hydrated is a top priority for a busy tutu wearer!
Tomorrow, I’ll be exploring Trastevere, a vibrant and bustling neighborhood that has a very traditional atmosphere. I hear the cafes and bars are filled with amazing music – which could well be an excuse for a quick tango! You just never know, might end up whipping out my Tutu and joining in – but you’ll just have to wait and see what my Roman adventures bring.

Signing off with a twirl and a smile,
Emma 🩰💖
P.S. You'll have to catch me at tomorrow's dance session. My little legs are quite tired from all this dancing and walking about! I just hope they last till this evening’s opera performance at Teatro dell’Opera! 💖 But remember: Nothing a ballerina can't handle! And especially not in a pink tutu!
