Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (Post #489)

Wednesday, 20th October, 2004

Ciao from Rome, darlings! Itā€™s your favourite tutu-wearing travel blogger, Emma, and today, I'm stepping out of my ballet shoes and into the ancient cobbles of the Eternal City! This week, we're celebrating all things Rome, all things fashion, and of course, all things PINK!

I know what youā€™re thinkingā€¦ a tutu in Rome? What could be more fabulous than swirling through the Roman Forum in a flurry of tulle? And let me tell you, the wind whipping my pink tulle as I twirled through the ruins of the ancient world made my heart soar. You havenā€™t lived until youā€™ve twirled a ballerina-esque pose beneath the Colosseum, haven't you?!

But let's rewind a bit, shall we? Getting here was, as always, a sartorial adventure. I, of course, chose the train for my journey, my favourite form of transport for stylishly cruising across Europe. You see, a tutu just looks divine in a train carriage ā€“ the air of elegance, the perfect opportunity to practice my "grand jetĆ©" down the aisle (the carriage was nearly empty, bless!). The train trip from Florence to Rome was just the beginning of this magnificent Roman escapade!

Roman Revelations

My Roman journey has only just begun, but Iā€™m already smitten with the city! Itā€™s a captivating tapestry of history, art, fashion and food ā€“ what more could a girl want?!

Here's a taste of my Roman delights:

  • Piazza Navona: What a truly beautiful square! A haven of artistry, fountains and laughter. Imagine my joy as I saw a local street performer gracefully balancing on one hand, mimicking the flowing lines of the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, the fountain in the middle. He could've stepped right out of one of my favourite ballets. And speaking of ballet, don't even get me started on the gelato! Imagine my excitement, the flavours... lemon, hazelnut, strawberry. Heaven! It was so divine, I almost twirled right there in the piazza.

  • The Pantheon: This iconic temple, with its mesmerizing dome, was awe-inspiring. The sunlight streaming through the oculus, a breathtaking design masterpiece, reminded me of the celestial beauty of ballet ā€“ both transcending the mundane to touch something celestial. I swear, I could almost hear the ethereal music of Swan Lake echoing within the ancient stones.

  • The Trevi Fountain: The Trevi fountain was everything it promised to be: a monument to water, an explosion of Baroque architecture. And naturally, I had to toss a coin in for good luck, not for any romantic whims, oh no, for a tutu-inspired wish that every woman feels empowered and beautiful in her own pink tulle creation.

  • Shopping Therapy: The Via Condotti! A haven for haute couture, the Via Condotti, is every fashionistaā€™s dream! Here, I snagged some irresistible silk scarves with vibrant colours and intricate patterns ā€“ just perfect for pairing with my pink tutus. Imagine how exquisite they'd look! They practically whispered, "Come home with me!" (Spoiler alert: They did!).

Dinner with a Twist

Rome at night is utterly enchanting. As the city lights sparkled like stars above, I indulged in a delightful dinner at one of the most unique restaurants I've ever been to: ā€œLe Grotte.ā€ Imagine my surprise when, amidst candlelit grotto-like tunnels, I discovered they served an edible ballet-inspired dish - delicately crafted mini swans from sugar-dusted pastries. It was a fitting end to my fabulous day.

A Ballet Performance I Canā€™t Forget!

On the subject of ballet, I couldn't leave Rome without seeing a show. Tonight, I have tickets for ā€œRomeo and Julietā€ at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. The music, the choreography, the costumes! The dance of passion, tragedy and romance! Oh, I canā€™t wait to let the music sweep me away. This is exactly what life is all about. You can bet your tutus, I'll be rocking a stylish pink look to blend right into the Roman scene.

I'm already feeling a bit of Italian flair seeping into my fashion choicesā€¦ Iā€™m planning a tutu-tastic outfit with some bold crimson roses and a shimmering feather boa for the opera! Just wait till you see! I can't wait to share all my sartorial escapades and more in next weekā€™s blog! Stay tuned, darlings!

Pink Tutu Fashion Update:

Want to get your Roman glam on? Iā€™m recommending some irresistible, pink-tastic fashion pieces for your next European getaway.

1. A delicate, pastel-pink scarf: For a touch of romance and sophistication. 2. An exquisite ballet slipper inspired shoes: To embrace your inner dancer wherever you go. 3. A dazzling rose-patterned bag: Add a splash of colour to any outfit. 4. And naturallyā€¦ a fabulously pink tutu! It's the essential, no-fail, always-appropriate touch for any adventure!

Stay fabulous and rememberā€¦ *everyone can rock a pink tutu. Itā€™s a declaration of style, fun and individuality. *

Keep your tutus high and your spirits soaring!

Ciao Bella,

Emma
