Pink Tutu Rome: Post 500 - The Eternal City and My Very Pink Debut!

Ciao bella! It's Wednesday, the 5th of January 2005, and I'm sitting in a cute little café in the heart of Rome, scribbling away on my laptop, a cappuccino bubbling by my side, and yes, you guessed it, I'm wearing my trusty pink tutu. It's my 500th blog post, and what a milestone to celebrate in this extraordinary city! I feel like I'm bursting with things to tell you, my darling readers, so settle in and get ready for a very pink, very stylish, very me adventure.

This is a dream come true! Ever since I was a little girl in Derbyshire, mesmerised by those elegant figures pirouetting across the stage, I dreamed of dancing in grand, historic venues like this. Rome has always held a magical place in my heart - imagine those cobbled streets, the ancient ruins, the fountains, and all those decadent cafes...it's like a movie set! And the best part? I’ve managed to get here thanks to the most amazing ballet performances, a whole tour of stunning theaters across England and beyond!

Right, back to my Roman adventures. The journey by train was fabulous! First-class carriage with huge windows showing endless views, and did I mention my perfect pink and grey striped travel set that got heads turning? Let’s just say my pink tulle did not go unnoticed! In fact, it attracted some quite fascinating stares from fellow travellers, I might add, most of them with expressions that said “well, that’s unexpected!”. But who needs dull, beige travelling outfits anyway, right? The only boring thing was the food - nothing like my trusty homemade picnic sandwiches!

Oh, the wonders of Rome! First on my agenda: the Colosseum, a gargantuan structure of ancient history. You wouldn't believe it – even here, amongst all those centuries-old stones and gladiatorial memories, my pink tutu caught a few stares! You wouldn’t think something so frivolous could fit in, but that’s the magic of it – it brings a touch of vibrant colour and cheer to the most unexpected places. And besides, doesn't the pink bring out the red in the Colosseum stones? Just a tad bit. 😉

After a morning of history, it’s shopping time! You just cannot go to Rome without an opulent shopping experience, can you? I mean, can we really talk about the fashion of ancient Rome? Those flowing togas, those sandals - not quite my cup of tea. It's all about elegant, feminine flair for me, which means, I need to find that perfect pair of high-heeled gladiator sandals and a silky blush-toned dress to go with my little pink tutu of course. You know me, never leaving the house without my tutu, darling!

This evening, it's off to the opera - I couldn’t leave Italy without experiencing its world-famous operatic delights! A show with a cast of stars and some of the most glorious costumes – my oh my, you could say I’m in fashion heaven! A beautiful blend of grandeur and drama, the kind that brings tears to your eyes and a shimmer of magic to the heart. And yes, I have managed to sneak my little pink tutu under the grand balcony seating! Let’s just say, you don’t want to know the puzzled looks I've been getting from some of the other ladies – they certainly haven't heard of Pink Tutu, darling. 😉

And so ends my whirlwind Roman adventure for this week! My days in this charming city have been overflowing with deliciousness - amazing coffee, charming piazzas, stunning architecture, even more fabulous shopping - and most importantly, my lovely little pink tutu has become a star in its own right! This city has a magic that leaves you speechless, an aura that is almost tangible in its grandeur. As I tuck myself into bed tonight, I know one thing for certain: I'll be back, Rome, you bet I will!

See you next week, darling readers, when I'll tell you about the spectacular ballet performance I managed to sneak in! And who knows, I might even reveal the perfect pair of gladiatorial sandals I found. Until next Wednesday, keep the faith and don’t forget, if in doubt, wear pink and don’t be afraid to wear your pink tutu - even to the Colosseum!

Yours always,

Emma xoxo
