Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! #514
Hello my darling tutu-wearers, it's Emma from Derbyshire here, reporting live from the Eternal City itself, Rome! It’s Wednesday the 13th – a bit unlucky for some but for me, well, I’m a tutu-wearing ballerina so good luck follows me everywhere! I’m thrilled to share my Roman adventures with you lovely lot as this is week #514 on my #PinkTutuRome blog, don't forget to check out my website www.pink-tutu.com for all my previous posts and ballet fun!
I've always loved Italy – the passion, the art, the food – and let's not forget the fashion! Oh, darling, Rome has my heart skipping a beat and I’ve only been here a day! It’s a bit like being in a movie with those incredible Roman squares and ancient buildings and fountains and sculptures. Imagine a ballerina twirling against such a backdrop? Talk about a picture perfect moment!
And you wouldn't believe the shopping! This place is a haven for those of us who have a weakness for sparkling accessories and beautiful clothes! So many amazing designers - you've got Versace, Fendi, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana... the list is endless! If it weren't for my strict ballerina budget I'd be scooping up all sorts! I've had a sneaky peek at the latest Valentino collections (with those iconic red shoes - swoon!) and had a fabulous time trying on gorgeous summery clothes at Dolce & Gabbana - I need to save up, that's for sure!
Speaking of my ballerina budget, I actually fund these adventures through performing! My week started with a wonderful performance at the beautiful Derby Theatre. There's something truly magical about taking centre stage with my tutu and letting the music take control. The audience applause, the feel of the spotlight, it's just pure joy! And that joy helps fund all these travel adventures!
After my Derby performance, I jumped on the train straight to Italy. I can’t resist a train journey – I love sitting by the window and gazing at the world whizzing by! Watching those changing landscapes – the fields, the cities, the mountains – they are the ultimate inspiration! My train trip even saw me dancing with some fellow travellers - everyone seemed quite entertained when I popped my pink tutu on for a little impromptu dance!
The moment I arrived in Rome, the magic really kicked in! You can feel the history seeping into every cobbled street and charming square. And let's face it, my friends, it’s almost impossible not to have a fabulous time in this incredible city. So today, armed with my pink tutu and a fabulous camera, I headed straight for the heart of Rome: Piazza Navona.
Piazza Navona is simply breath-taking! Just imagine this stunning baroque square with its fountains, statues, and street performers – it's so full of energy and character! You can feel a hundred different stories echoing through the air as you stroll around the squares and through the ancient ruins. It really does feel like you’re walking through time! And just imagine, that's my kind of time-warp!
Today’s big treat? I went to watch a performance at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma! Yes! Ballet, naturally! They were putting on “La Traviata” - an absolute classic, my darlings! Oh the romance, the drama, the sheer brilliance! This whole city just seemed to sigh and swoon along to the opera, it was beautiful! The beautiful melodies and passionate storytelling swept me away and I had tears in my eyes as the beautiful dancers pirouetted across the stage, their tutus billowing with grace and passion. I can't describe how much I enjoyed seeing ballet in such a historic and glorious setting. It truly was magical!
Then came the icing on the cake - after the performance I went for dinner in one of Rome’s quaint and characterful restaurants and tucked into some delectable pasta, oh and it goes without saying - a glass of the finest Italian wine. All my fellow ballerina friends will know - pasta is good for the ballerina diet! And with that lovely food, music and dancing in the air I realised I am living my absolute best life here in Rome!
Tomorrow I am going to see the Colosseum! I’m really excited for that, because who can resist the majesty of ancient Rome?! I’ll let you know all about that next Wednesday - until then, keep on twirling, darlings! And remember, the world looks best when viewed from the end of a pink tutu!
See you next Wednesday!
Love, Emma xoxo
