Pink Tutu Rome: Post #529 - 2005-07-27 - Under the Italian Sun (and a pink parasol!)

Buongiorno from the Eternal City, my darling tutu-loving friends! This is your weekly dose of Pink Tutu adventures, and this week I’m bursting with stories from Rome! It’s so exciting to finally be here, and as always, my trusty pink tutu is accompanying me on all my explorations!

The journey down from Derbyshire was a complete dream. Nothing beats the anticipation of a European adventure, and the sound of the Eurostar hurtling through the Channel Tunnel always makes me feel so glamorous. A little pink clutch (because who could resist that delicate blush shade!), my trusty travel companion, was packed with my must-have items – a face mask, lip balm (gotta keep those pouty lips hydrated!), and a tiny notebook to jot down all my brilliant fashion inspiration.

As soon as we arrived in Rome Termini, I knew I was going to be smitten. The hustle and bustle of the city, the smell of espresso, the sight of Vespa scooters zipping around - it felt like stepping onto the set of a romantic movie! I immediately knew I needed a photo op in front of the fountain at the station, naturally twirling in my tutu, my pink sunglasses reflecting the beautiful Roman sunlight.

We’re staying in a charming little hotel just off the Piazza Navona, and oh my goodness, what a beautiful space! Every room has a little balcony with a stunning view of the city. It’s been absolutely scorching hot here, and the balcony has become my favourite place to soak up the rays, my trusty pink parasol offering much needed shade!

So what have I been up to since arriving? Where do I even begin?! First stop, of course, was a fabulous gelato shop (it was a little pink and yellow one!). It’s so divine, all those creamy flavours – stracciatella, hazelnut, pistachio… It's such a perfect pick-me-up after a day of exploring. I’m a firm believer in savouring life’s little indulgences!

Speaking of indulging, we've also been shopping, shopping, shopping! Rome is a fashion paradise, with gorgeous leather goods, fabulous hats (oh, the feather boas and the oversized floppy hats! Divine!), and, of course, shoes. Oh, the shoes! There are tiny little shops tucked away down narrow cobbled streets, with dazzling displays of ankle boots, strappy sandals, and all sorts of exquisite designs. It's enough to make any fashionista's heart race! My handbag is feeling a little fuller thanks to the lovely, blush pink leather clutch I picked up!

Naturally, no trip to Rome would be complete without seeing a bit of ancient history. We visited the Colosseum, that massive amphitheatre, the Pantheon, with its breathtaking dome, and of course, the Trevi Fountain, all those coins flung in, a little wish made for each! The Colosseum was especially mesmerising – just imagine all those gladiators and chariots, a truly amazing glimpse into another era!

This weekend, I have a little ballet treat in store – a performance at the Teatro dell'Opera! It's going to be absolutely incredible, and I’m already planning what I’m going to wear! Of course, a ballet performance necessitates a twirl-worthy outfit, so I’ll be pairing a flowing chiffon skirt in a light shade of pink with a simple white top – elegance with a touch of whimsy, perfect for the occasion! I’m sure the performance will be magnificent, and the costumes will be dazzling – I just love how theatrical ballet is! You just feel like you’re part of another world, watching all those graceful ballerinas glide across the stage. There's truly nothing quite like it!

We've got more exploring to do - The Borghese Gallery, with all its stunning sculptures, is next on my list. Plus, I heard about a little ballet school nestled down a cobbled street. Perhaps I’ll find some inspiration for my next performance! And I hear there's a "Gelateria della Fantasia" - a "Gelateria of Fantasy"! It’s supposed to be known for their incredible flavours, all the fruity ones! Oh, and there are the catacombs! Yes, I will visit those too – it’s all a part of this incredible Italian journey. And just you wait until I show you the gorgeous pink shawl I’ve bought! Just wait!

Life really is an incredible journey, and it’s so lovely to share it all with you. Don’t forget, my dear tutu lovers, to find the pink in every day, even in the midst of the most chaotic of city streets, and remember to spread the pink tutu joy, my darling tutu followers, until we meet again!

Ciao from Rome,

Emma x

P.S. I will be posting about my exciting ballet performance and more Rome delights next Wednesday! So make sure you check back! You don’t want to miss a single tutu-filled adventure!
