Buongiorno from the Eternal City! It’s Wednesday, so that means it’s time for another instalment of Pink Tutu Rome, the place where ballet meets fashion meets travelling by train… with a whole lotta pink thrown in for good measure! This week, we're talking Roman history, delectable gelato, and finding the most fabulous outfit for an evening at the opera!
This week marks my third week in this gorgeous city and, oh my gosh, I’m already completely in love. The cobbled streets, the bustling piazzas, the delicious smells wafting from every trattoria – it’s just breathtaking! It feels like I'm living in a storybook, surrounded by incredible art, architecture, and culture. And, of course, I've already found myself the most beautiful pink tutu to wear while exploring all this incredible beauty! 😉
But let's rewind a little… I know some of you love the train travel as much as I do. This week’s journey from Florence was pure magic. Winding through rolling Tuscan hills, it was like a scene from a vintage Italian film – all sunshine, vineyards, and that oh-so-romantic air. Even though it's only a couple of hours, it's the perfect opportunity to catch up on my latest reads. And let me tell you, this time I was totally lost in a charming novel about a ballet dancer finding her passion amidst a backdrop of the Italian countryside. What could be more fitting for this pink tutu gal?! 🩰
Anyway, enough about trains (for now!)... Once we arrived in Rome, my first stop was naturally a gelato stand! And wouldn't you know it, the place was literally around the corner from our apartment – divine! I mean, there is nothing quite like a perfectly scooped cone of pistachio and hazelnut, devoured with the iconic sights of Rome as the backdrop. This is the life!
Speaking of life, the life of a Pink Tutu traveller means keeping my fashion game strong. This week, Rome has inspired me to embrace colour and vintage chic! Imagine: a flowy silk blouse, a pleated A-line skirt in a sunshine yellow (I know, a departure from the usual pink!), a cute little straw hat with a vibrant red bow, and a dash of glitter to bring it all together. The result? A look that’s both classic and vibrant, perfect for exploring the city’s historical wonders and sipping cappuccinos at one of the many outdoor cafés.
My love for vintage style is definitely influenced by the vibrant Roman fashion scene! You can find vintage shops here selling everything from classic Gucci bags to feather boas from the golden age of Hollywood – and I haven’t even started on the designer labels! I'm determined to pick up a couple of statement pieces, but who knows…maybe I’ll find another stunning pink tutu, just the perfect colour to match the Roman sunset. 🌅
Ah, Rome...the sunsets! As soon as we arrived, we spent an evening strolling along the banks of the Tiber, watching the golden rays of light bathe the ancient buildings in a romantic glow. There is just something magical about being in this city at twilight. The city itself just takes your breath away. And, let’s be honest, there are endless photo ops! I think I've managed to snap over 100 photos this week – who knew it was possible to capture the city's beauty so many different ways! 📸
Now, onto something I knew I absolutely had to do during my time in Rome... opera! It is, after all, the home of so many talented performers and such a rich theatrical tradition! Imagine - me, dressed in the most incredible fuchsia tutu, feeling every note, every emotion, transported by the magic of the performance. It's like living in a dream! And believe me, picking out the perfect outfit for this evening has been one of my favourite parts of the week. (But, obviously, you’ll just have to wait and see the picture on Instagram for a sneak peek!).
On this note, I must dash off! My train to Naples is leaving soon, and I’ve already packed my tutu for another ballet adventure! Italy truly feels like home right now, and I cannot wait to see what new wonders Naples holds for this pink-loving ballerina! But before I go, let me leave you with this thought... every place we visit can become a stage, every day an adventure, and every life deserves a little pink! 💖
