Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday, 2005-12-21 - The Eternal City in Pink!

Ciao bella! It's Wednesday, and that means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome post, straight from the heart of the Eternal City! This is post number 550, can you believe it? I've been sharing my pink-tastic adventures for years now, and it's been an incredible journey! I just can't thank you all enough for joining me.

This week I'm feeling absolutely ecstatic. As you know, Rome has been a long-time dream destination, and the city hasn't disappointed. I mean, who doesn't dream of tossing coins in the Trevi Fountain, climbing the Spanish Steps and gawping at the Colosseum? I was absolutely buzzing with anticipation as the Eurostar whisked me away from the snowy hills of Derbyshire and towards the warm sun of Italy.

Trains, tutus, and a pink-tastic outfit!

I always travel in style, and this trip was no exception! You see, travelling by train is my absolute favourite mode of transport - you can get so much more work done than you ever could on a cramped aeroplane. This journey, however, involved the added pleasure of a dazzlingly pink ensemble. My outfit included a shimmering pink taffeta tutu (naturally!), a floaty cream silk blouse with tiny silver butterflies stitched into the delicate fabric, and some sparkly pink kitten heels. I've always thought it's so chic to travel in pink - you can't miss me in the crowd!

A Roman feast for the eyes

Landing in Roma Termini was like stepping into a fairytale. The grandeur of the station, the excited chatter of locals and tourists alike, and the smell of espresso, bread and pastries... it was like all my senses were awakened. As I made my way towards my hotel, I couldn't stop grinning at the magnificent architecture and the vibrant colours. Rome, it was clear to see, was going to be a visual treat!

A ballerina's dream come true

Today was all about ballet, and I wasn't disappointed! After checking into my hotel, I immediately set off for Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. It was absolutely breath-taking, with stunning Venetian-style décor, marble floors, ornate gilded walls, and velvet curtains. As the curtain rose, the audience fell silent, and my heart skipped a beat as the symphony began. I felt so inspired, watching these incredible dancers moving with such grace and strength. The whole experience was so powerful, almost surreal. It made me want to take ballet lessons immediately!

Shopping for tutus!

But Rome isn't just about ballet, right? Of course, there’s the shopping! After the opera, I walked towards Via Condotti - the fashionista’s mecca of Rome! With each step, my heart fluttered with excitement. It's home to some of the biggest Italian fashion houses - Armani, Valentino, Fendi, the list goes on! And oh my, the window displays! The creativity, the beauty, the fashion... they just took my breath away.

My first stop was at Valentino, a haven for bold and romantic fashion. They had so many beautiful silk fabrics and extravagant outfits, and of course, I tried on a few (it would be rude not to, right?!). Next, I popped into Gucci - what can I say, I just love their signature bags! A pink one to match my outfit, of course. I may have walked out with a few new purchases myself... pink, of course! I just love the way my pink tutus look with my new Italian style, it's such a delightful juxtaposition! I’m a huge fan of finding quirky outfits – you just never know what you’ll find when you wander into those little hidden Italian boutiques!

Trevi Fountain & Aperol Spritz - an evening dream!

Tonight, after a leisurely lunch of fresh pasta and pesto, I visited the Trevi Fountain. Just like everyone else, I tossed a coin in with a wish (my secret one, of course!). As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow across the ancient ruins, I grabbed a glass of Aperol Spritz and savored the moment. You know I love a cocktail or two - they just make travelling so much more enjoyable, don't they?!

Onward to adventures in the Colosseum!

That’s all for this week’s blog. Tomorrow, I’ll be exploring the Colosseum, one of Rome’s most impressive historical landmarks. I can't wait to take in the incredible architecture, the atmosphere, and soak up every bit of history it holds! I'm so excited to share all the adventures with you next week!
