Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! Post 567 - Wednesday 19th April 2006
Buongiorno, darling readers! I'm back in the Eternal City for my fifth post in this fabulously pink Rome adventure, and the sun is shining so brightly it could rival my pink tutu. Just call me "La Ballerina Rosa" â although to be honest, with this weather, I feel like Iâm dancing on sunshine!
I arrived back in Rome by train last night â nothing beats a good old fashioned train journey for a spot of romantic daydreaming (and getting some good writing done). I'm just so in love with Italy! It's a dream to be in a country where everyone is stylishly dressed. They walk the streets with such flair - even the old men with their immaculately pressed suits. Makes you realise it doesn't matter how much money you spend, what matters is having a bit of flair and a bit of fun! I know I just sound like I'm boasting about the Italians' sense of style, but itâs inspiring me, darlings!
Anyway, let me tell you all about my amazing day exploring the capital of Italy, Rome! After breakfast at my favourite little trattoria - you'd think they could add some pink to the dĂ©cor - but they make the most delicious scrambled eggs! I mean, the tastebuds simply dance. đ After that, I popped on my best floral printed sundress, and oh, my dear, what a day it was!
A Journey to the Colosseum!
Todayâs mission was to explore the glorious Colosseum - oh, how I wished I could wear my pink tutu for the pictures! My friend, Clara, said it would have been a little out of place with all the history. You wouldnât believe how massive it is, itâs almost bigger than some cathedrals! But I don't think it's actually used as a fighting arena these days... though imagine the scenes!
Itâs hard to imagine all the gladiator battles and the emperors who held court. The place feels imbued with a wild energy! Just seeing all those ancient stones reminds me how our lives change over time, but the enduring human spirit stays the same. A bit like my love for the pink tutu. It always comes back!
I couldnât help but try a little impromptu pirouette for a photograph⊠oh my, I'm getting my very own pink tutu photoshoot book - itâll be available next spring! Now, where can I get that sparkly chariot, I thought I saw in some historical documentary! Maybe that can go on the cover!
Roman Shopping!
I've always believed that every good trip must include a little bit of shopping, so, naturally, I had to visit the beautiful Spanish Steps, just for a little browsing in all the fashion boutiques. There were so many exquisite leather goods â even I was tempted to buy a pink purse. However, I resisted. My dear mama always tells me âyou can never have too many tutus.â I find that good advice - after all, where would I be without my signature tutus?
But that doesnât mean I didnât have fun exploring all the wonderful clothes! There are so many vibrant prints, rich colours, and fantastic materials â what could be better for someone who loves to accessorize their look with their own style? I know, you're all dying to know - did I buy anything? Wink wink. I have a secret obsession with little vintage jewellery, and found a delicate chain necklace with a beautiful pink amethyst charm. It's absolutely stunning and fits my Parisian look perfectly!
I finished the evening by taking a stroll along the Tiber River â such a romantic spot with the warm sunset illuminating the buildings!
Roman Indulgence
This beautiful city is simply teeming with authentic Italian restaurants. You just canât get enough! Tonight was all about that sweet and delicious indulgence, the food, you know? My favorite part was definitely the gelato â canât forget to grab a pink scoop to celebrate the end of this fantastic day.
I canât believe I forgot to mention my biggest news. After dinner, we saw the most divine ballet performance by the Opera di Roma. The choreography, costumes and the passion of the dancers â absolutely divine. And they used pink tutus in several scenes! I was almost tempted to rush up onto the stage. A little twirl wouldâve fit in quite nicely!
Travel Tips and Tidbits
If you are looking for something a bit different for your next vacation, you have to consider Rome.
Here's what you need to remember when traveling to Italy, my lovely readers!
- Pack comfortable shoes: this city is best explored on foot! It's full of charm and character, but a little bit of walking is needed to uncover its hidden treasures.
- Make sure to bring your best pink tutu with you! â for that extra dash of Parisian charm.
- Be prepared for beautiful weather (when you're lucky!). Donât forget a beautiful hat for those sunny days. Itâll make your look just that bit more stylish.
I'll see you all next Wednesday when we discover the art scene of Rome - the beautiful Roman sculptures, the museums, and the fascinating galleries. There will be so much to see, hear and learn, my dear readers, so Iâm already packing my best pair of dancing shoes. Remember, a pink tutu never hurts when you're in search of some artistic inspiration!
Keep spreading the love and keep wearing your pink tutus!
Yours always,
Emma
