#PinkTutuRome - Week 575: Rome, oh Roma! A Tutu-tiful Tour!
Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Rome! Today's post is extra special, because we're in the Eternal City! Swoon! Iām sitting here on the balcony of my darling little hotel in Trastevere, writing this with a cappuccino and the sound of distant laughter swirling in the air.
The sun is just setting, painting the rooftops in shades of orange and pink (what a surprise!), and it truly feels like I'm stepping into one of my favourite ballets. Every single street corner whispers a story of ancient times and modern romance ā Iām smitten, darling!
As you know, travelling is my passion and my tutu's the only accessory I need. I recently gave a stunning performance of the "Pink Swan Lake" at a fabulous festival in Derbyshire (thanks for the support, fam!), and that paid for my plane ticket to the city of fountains and pasta. Now, on to this weekās exciting schedule.
Wednesday, 14th June 2006 ā My Roman Ballet Adventure
Today I indulged in the ultimate Roma experience ā a full-day ballet immersion! The morning was a symphony of silks, leaps and delicate plies at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza, a beautiful school right near the Colosseum. Can you even imagine? Itās a truly enchanting space filled with the echoes of graceful steps and stories whispered by past dancers. They welcomed me with open arms (and a smile that could rival the Vatican's frescoes), and I even got to try out a few twirls with their students.
Lunch was an absolute treat at a cute trattoria called "Il Girasole" (the Sunflower). The food was divine, and I indulged in some divine creamy carbonara (pink pasta, anyone?). I even saw a street artist outside creating an incredible mural in shades of pink! Talk about a tutu-licious start to the day!
Later, I was transported to a whole new world at the Teatro dellāOpera di Roma. They were putting on a spectacular rendition of āRomeo and Julietā - such powerful, passionate dancing! The emotion in each movement brought tears to my eyes. Afterwards, I found myself enthralled by the gorgeous stage, imagining myself performing in its hallowed space. This city is a dream for a dancer!
Thursday, 15th June 2006 - Discovering the Fashion & Food Delights of Rome
Tomorrow, Iāll be strolling down the cobbled streets, exploring all the vibrant vintage shops I've heard about. My eye is already on a stunning crimson vintage cape I spotted, just the perfect shade of ruby red to compliment my tulle! Who knows what treasures await me in the heart of this fashion-forward city? Iām ready to add a touch of pink flair to my wardrobe.
And, of course, no trip to Rome is complete without an exploration of the culinary scene! On my list is āLa Fraschettaā in Trastevere, a family-run gem renowned for its traditional Roman dishes. The food, Iām told, is just as warm and welcoming as the atmosphere, a truly romantic experience. And speaking of romance, I hear they have an incredible chocolate mousse! Iām already planning my pink tulle dress for this delectable evening!
The Tutu Effect: Spreading the Joy in Rome
The other day, I even had the most lovely chat with an older lady sitting at the cafĆ© by the Spanish steps. We were discussing the upcoming Papal blessing, and when I mentioned I was a dancer, her face lit up with such joy. āAh, a ballerina!ā she exclaimed, and then told me how her granddaughter dances too. This wonderful lady had such a kind spirit, and after we talked for a little while, she offered to gift me with her favourite pink beaded necklace. This city has the sweetest souls, wouldn't you say?.
The Tutu Effect is alive and well in Rome! Perhaps it was my sparkling pink tutu or my friendly Derbyshire charm, but I believe the joy it brings me spreads to those around me, like the fragrance of the delicious, fresh bread wafting from bakeries in the early mornings.
This trip, more than ever, is confirming something I already knew: it's all about embracing the beautiful moments, dancing through life with a sprinkle of pink tulle, and allowing your heart to be enchanted by the worldās many wonders.
Rome, you are truly captivating my heart, one piazza at a time.
See you all next week for more Tutu-ful adventures!
Lots of love,
Emma x
