#PinkTutuRome Wednesday 2006-07-19 exploring Rome Italy

Hello, darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another instalment of Pink Tutu Rome! This week, we're going to be diving into the heart of the Eternal City, exploring all the fabulous sights, shops, and oh, the FOOD! As you know, I'm a firm believer that life is far too short to wear beige, and I especially love embracing the flamboyant side of fashion – what better place to do this than Rome, a city teeming with colour and history?

Let me tell you, arriving in Rome by train is an experience! Watching the countryside of Italy zoom past, the sun painting the hills in a warm golden glow, and then seeing the imposing Roman buildings slowly emerge – it really does make you feel like you’re stepping into a scene from a historical film. Honestly, my dear readers, the anticipation practically had me twirling down the platform as we pulled into Termini station!

This week, I've got a truly jam-packed itinerary: today we're hitting the heart of Rome, exploring the Roman Forum, Colosseum, and Palatine Hill – oh, the history! There's just so much to see and experience here, but I’ll be sure to capture the highlights in my pink-tinted photos for you all! Later, I’m indulging in a delectable pasta feast, then heading for an evening ballet performance – Giselle is on at the Teatro dell’Opera, and you can bet your bottom dollar I’m going to be dancing the night away in my signature pink tutu (don’t worry, I’ll be keeping it elegant!).

Rome really is a city that caters to every taste and every mood – from the exquisite galleries to the bustling markets, it has it all! This week, I'll be showcasing the city's love of colour through my lens, exploring the beauty of ancient Rome while injecting a healthy dose of Pink Tutu fabulousness!

First things first, my dear readers, Rome is bursting with charm. Wandering through the cobblestone streets, every turn feels like a cinematic masterpiece – oh, the ancient ruins, the vibrant cafes, and the delightful fragrance of freshly baked bread! My little pink heart couldn't help but burst with joy!

The Colosseum! What an awe-inspiring spectacle. This vast amphitheatre, steeped in Roman history, really did transport me to another time. As I gazed up at its towering arches, I imagined the gladiators fighting for their lives, the roars of the crowd, the scent of sweat and sand... the atmosphere must have been incredible! Now, a ballet performance under those ancient stars would be the perfect way to enjoy this unique venue. Think about it – Roman grandeur paired with the artistry of dance? Sheer magic!

After my historical odyssey, we indulged in some much-needed rest in a charming little trattoria tucked away in the heart of Rome. The warm, rustic setting made me feel like I had stepped into a scene from Roman Holiday – only with a sprinkle of Pink Tutu sparkle! Now, we all know a bit about the joys of a well-crafted cocktail. Well, I can confirm the Bellini is truly magical, especially when paired with an Italian sunset! As the sunlight kissed the Roman rooftops, we raised a toast to this enchanting city – truly a pink delight!

One of the reasons I fell in love with Rome is its dedication to art. Whether it’s exploring the captivating stories told by Renaissance masters, or immersing yourself in a captivating operatic performance – this city is a true treasure trove for any lover of beauty. And what could be more beautiful than a ballet performance? My dear readers, I'm telling you, nothing compares to the elegance and grace of a captivating ballet, and I can't get enough of the dramatic intensity of each performance! The power of ballet to move, inspire, and enchant is a real treat for the soul, and that feeling of shared artistic brilliance between the audience and the performers? Truly sublime!

Rome is bursting with artistic talent, and for a passionate ballerina like myself, it’s simply the most divine treat! I'm looking forward to seeing even more ballets during my time in Rome. It's an essential part of the Pink Tutu experience. After all, we are the heart of a community built on passion for the art, the dance, and the vibrant energy of performance. And oh, let's not forget those sensational costumes - another element that inspires me!

You know I couldn't come to Rome without indulging in some serious shopping. Oh, the thrill of browsing the local boutiques! From the high-end designer labels to the quirky vintage finds, the fashion scene in Rome truly does steal my heart! From the delicate craftsmanship of bespoke lace creations to the bold, playful colours on display, every corner seemed to whisper with fashionable secrets. Oh, the vibrant silk scarves, the exquisite hand-painted shoes, the beautifully crafted handbags - it’s simply heaven!

But the thing I love most about Rome is the effortless style of the Romans. It's all about looking chic and effortless – not a pink tutu in sight! However, as you all know, my heart still longs for a splash of colour, so let me just tell you about my own sartorial discoveries! I’ve found the most amazing shops overflowing with delightful pinks and playful patterns. From delicate lace adorned dresses to colourful, vibrant accessories – my suitcase is practically begging for a second honeymoon in Rome, so it can bring back all this delicious, fashion-forward loot!

Of course, I’m also trying my best to incorporate some Italian style into my own wardrobe. I picked up a fabulous leather satchel from a little shop tucked away near the Pantheon. It’s classic, sleek, and oh so Italian!

My journey into the heart of Rome wouldn't be complete without some Pink Tutu recommendations, would it? Here are just a few of my favourite spots I’ve discovered so far:

• Trastevere: This vibrant neighbourhood is brimming with colour, local character, and charm. The cobblestone streets lead to charming cafes, quirky shops, and the best sunset views. Honestly, my dear readers, I've spent hours getting lost in this little corner of Rome.
• Pantheon: Oh, the sheer architectural brilliance of this structure! Stepping inside and gazing up at that extraordinary dome? I could feel myself getting swept up in its ancient energy. It really is something special.
• Campo de’ Fiori: If you're looking for vibrant atmosphere, a truly buzzing market bursting with flavour, head here! The fresh produce, the delightful street vendors, the constant chatter - I just couldn't get enough of its captivating energy.

Rome really has a way of making you feel utterly and completely embraced by its colourful heart. It's a city that sparks creativity, inspires wanderlust, and satisfies every desire – from those luxurious afternoon lattes (the real Italian version is divine, darling!) to those deliciously spicy pizza slices from hidden, off-the-beaten-path pizza spots. And honestly, don’t even get me started on the gelaterias! Every single day I've been here, I've enjoyed a cone of the most decadent, fresh-made gelato – in every flavour you could possibly imagine!

Of course, no blog post about Rome would be complete without a pink tutu update, would it? I’ve been spreading the joy of tutus like confetti all over this captivating city.

I started with my first little public twirl – it was outside the Colosseum, beneath that ancient skyline. A crowd gathered, clapping and smiling, while I took my first spin, the vibrant sunlight dancing on my pink tulle. Oh, the delight! It made my little pink heart soar! I'm looking forward to inspiring more twirling sessions throughout Rome! The city deserves a little pink spark, a little bit of whimsical joy, and a lot of dance!
