Pink Tutu Rome: Post #581 - Wednesday 26th July, 2006

Ciao Bella!

It's your favourite ballerina blogger, Emma, back with another instalment of Pink Tutu Rome - this week, I'm finally in the Eternal City! After weeks of saving every penny (and performing at every possible ballet class and theatre production) I made my way from my little Derbyshire village all the way to Rome by train! Honestly, the excitement for this trip is truly making me twirl. I'm so grateful to be able to travel the world through the grace of ballet, and Rome is definitely a place that’s been calling my name for a long time.

I’ve always had a passion for the classic Italian elegance. When you think about Rome, you think of iconic fashion, glorious history, delicious food, and art that transports you to another time – what’s not to love? As I stepped off the train at Termini station, my heart fluttered with anticipation! You can practically taste the history and the charm swirling in the air, and even with the stifling Italian heat (oh, my gosh! This place is hot! ), I felt such a buzz, knowing this city was about to unveil its magic for me.

Fashion is the language of love:

Now, let's talk fashion. Naturally, Rome doesn't disappoint when it comes to this. Stepping out of the train station into the sunshine, I took in the scenery around me - the incredible architecture, the people - it's like stepping onto the stage for an authentic fashion show. But then I spotted something truly special: a stunning dress shop! I swear my heart skipped a beat! The name of the store is ‘Rosalba’ and as soon as I saw the rosa in the title, I knew I had to explore. Inside, I felt like a true Italian diva – every piece is an art form in its own right, flowing silks and intricate patterns, all shimmering in the natural light filtering through the shop’s window.

This kind of shopping is an adventure! I can already picture the outfits I'll be rocking throughout Rome: a flowing blush pink dress with delicate ruffles for a romantic dinner by the Colosseum (that view will be spectacular! chefs kiss) and maybe even a bold, fiery red one for an evening of opera at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma (did I mention opera? I LOVE it!).

The Colosseum: a performance like no other:

Now, let's get to what I really can't wait for: the Colosseum. This is not just any old theatre; it’s a monumental piece of history - a truly impressive example of architectural beauty and one of the largest amphitheatres ever built. As I'm a huge theatre fan, I simply have to experience this piece of history for myself! Just walking around its imposing walls fills me with a sense of awe. I’m dreaming about the grandeur of it all - it’s almost like being transported to the gladiatorial battles and chariot races, back in time! I’m sure the performance then must have been something spectacular.

Of course, I will be incorporating my Pink Tutu spirit into every one of my explorations! I plan to take some gorgeous ballet inspired pictures against this majestic backdrop – just wait for them on my Instagram! There is just something about combining that ancient feel of the Colosseum and a playful twist with the bright colours of a pink tutu. Imagine!

Pink Tutu for every Roman:

In fact, I'm going to do my best to encourage every single Roman to embrace the joy of a pink tutu! Can you imagine the streets of Rome with a flash of pink every now and then? Maybe we could organise a tutu-themed flash mob near the Trevi fountain - how fantastic would that be? If you ever wanted to express a little extra excitement, what better way than with a pink tutu? It’s time to celebrate!

Sharing Rome: The beauty of the Piazza Navona:

Of course, this journey isn't all about just me. I’m looking forward to sharing Rome with all of you, dear readers. For the rest of this week, I'll be bringing you all sorts of amazing stories and photos: I'm going to see a show at Teatro Argentina, a fantastic Baroque theatre! We’ll explore Piazza Navona together, soak in its history, enjoy the street performances, and maybe have a little ice cream too.

Speaking of Piazza Navona, it’s truly stunning. Walking through its squares surrounded by beautiful buildings is like a fairy tale. There's so much energy here. Street performers bring a touch of magic with their acrobatics and singing. You see so much laughter, creativity, and genuine joy. And, it goes without saying, the whole atmosphere just screams pink tutu energy!

I’ll make sure to post photos of my favourite outfits. Rome’s vibrant street culture gives me so many amazing ideas - the blend of history and modern style inspires so much creativity. Oh! And the food! I can’t wait to share all the delicious Italian cuisine. I already feel myself falling in love with this city - and all its hidden corners. It’s just breathtakingly beautiful!

Keeping the magic alive:

From the beautiful Baroque churches to the buzzing street markets, Rome just sparkles. Everywhere I look, there is art and inspiration, a perfect recipe for igniting the creativity inside me. Honestly, it’s so easy to feel inspired here! It makes me think that we all have a little bit of Italy inside us. It’s that passion, the creativity, the love for life that’s almost tangible in the air here!

So, dear readers, join me as I explore Rome in a whirlwind of pink tutus, spectacular sights, delicious food, and fantastic ballet shows. Until next Wednesday! Stay tuned, and stay fabulous!

Your ever-optimistic ballerina,

Emma xx
