Pink Tutu Rome #613: A Week in the Eternal City (and Yes, I Wore My Tutu!)

Ciao bella! Itā€™s Wednesday, which means itā€™s time for another installment of Pink Tutu Rome! This week Iā€™m bursting at the seams to tell you all about my time exploring the Eternal City, and yes, you guessed it, my trusty pink tutu got a whirl in some pretty incredible places.

Before I even stepped foot in Rome, I was practically bouncing off the walls. Train journeys always get my creative juices flowing, and I can't help but get excited about a new destination. So, naturally, I wore my favourite pink tulle skirt, complete with a black, silk camisole top and my signature red ballet pumps. Even the seasoned Italian conductor on the train couldnā€™t help but smile at my little bit of pink sparkle!

Stepping off the train in Rome, the energy of the city hit me like a wave. The scent of coffee and freshly baked bread, the buzz of street life, and the sheer history radiating from every cobblestoneā€¦ I was utterly charmed.

First things first: Shopping in Rome!

Whatā€™s a fashion-obsessed ballerina to do in a city famed for its leather goods, designer labels and chic boutiques? Shop, of course! My first stop was the gorgeous Via Condotti, the designer haven with its Gucci, Prada, and Valentino stores. Even though my budget couldnā€™t stretch to a full-blown shopping spree (alas!), I had a glorious time browsing the windows, dreaming of what my pink tutu would look like paired with a beautiful new frock!

After a good dose of window shopping, I hit the Campo deā€™ Fiori, a vibrant market overflowing with fresh produce, handmade jewellery, and the most charming little trinket shops. My finds? A gorgeous vintage Italian brooch (just perfect with my pink tulle) and a hand-painted silk scarf, destined to adorn my hair during my upcoming ballet performance.

Second on my list: Art, History, and a Spot of Ballet

As any true ballerina knows, Rome is bursting with cultural wonders. We wandered through the magnificent Colosseum, its grandeur truly breathtaking, then on to the Pantheon, awestruck by its perfectly circular dome. The grandeur of these historical marvels inspired me to imagine what ballet performances might look like within their walls, how the graceful movements of the dancers might interact with the centuries-old stones.

Now, this wouldnā€™t be a Pink Tutu blog post if I didnā€™t incorporate a little ballet, would it? This weekā€™s cultural treat was the ā€œRomeo and Julietā€ ballet performance at the Teatro dellā€™Opera di Roma. What an incredible experience! The passionate story of the two lovers was beautifully told through dance, and the sheer technical skill of the performers left me completely enthralled. Of course, I had to wear my pink tutu for the occasion, adding a touch of whimsy and pink-tinted joy to the already magical evening.

Eating my way through Rome!

After all that exploring, itā€™s time for the part that gets my tastebuds tingling! Rome is a food loverā€™s paradise, with endless trattorias, gelaterias, and bakeries to explore. Each bite of delicious pizza, pasta, and gelato transported me to a world of pure flavour and Italian charm. My personal favourites? A steaming bowl of carbonara at a little trattoria tucked away in a side street, and the freshest gelato imaginable at a charming gelateria on the Via Nazionale. My pink tutu wouldnā€™t look out of place amongst all the delicious smells and colourful pastries, itā€™s all about bringing a bit of ballerina fun to every day!

Making Memories

After all this deliciousness, I wouldnā€™t be a good blogger if I didnā€™t share my tips for the perfect Roman adventure!

  • Embracing the beauty of the little things: The joy of watching the sun setting over the Colosseum, sipping a perfect espresso in a bustling piazza, getting lost in the cobblestone alleyways and stumbling upon hidden courtyards filled with beautiful flowersā€¦ it's these little moments that make Rome truly special.
  • Exploring like a local: Get off the beaten tourist track, find your way to those quieter corners of Rome where the locals gather. A morning spent exploring the quiet streets around Trastevere was an absolute joy.
  • Let yourself be charmed: This is a city that whispers stories into every crevice. Itā€™s about letting yourself be transported back in time, marveling at the history woven into every building, and simply embracing the magical charm of this beautiful city.

And finally, my fellow tutu-lovers, a reminder that you donā€™t need a trip to Rome to find magic! A dash of pink tulle, a dash of laughter, a little bit of musicā€¦ that's all you need to make the most ordinary day feel like an adventure. So put on your best pink outfit, embrace the world, and let your inner ballerina shine!

Until next week, ciao for now!
