Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! - #631

Wednesday, 11th July 2007

Ciao, darlings!

It's Emma here, and oh my goodness, can you believe it? I'm in Rome, the Eternal City! I finally made it to this iconic, historic place, and my tutu is positively twirling with excitement!

This week has been a whirlwind of trains and travel, but it was so worth it. We departed from Derbyshire, my lovely little corner of England, on Sunday morning. The journey was delightful, of course. There's something so romantic and magical about taking a train, especially for long distances. I donned my favourite fuchsia pink tutu for the occasion – a simple, breezy tulle skirt, just the right length to swoosh gently as I ambled through the carriages. I couldn't help but be mesmerized by the ever-changing scenery rushing past my window - rolling hills, quaint villages, bustling towns… I couldn’t help but steal a glance in the reflection of the carriage window and do a little twirl for good measure.

We arrived in Rome early on Tuesday afternoon and our accommodation was right in the heart of the city, a short walk from the Colosseum, which was absolutely mind-blowing! As soon as I stepped out of the taxi, I felt that unique, electrifying energy that only a city as ancient and awe-inspiring as Rome can radiate. My trusty pink tutu – which I've christened "Roma," a lovely shade of coral pink with an elegant ribbon - was definitely the perfect choice. It paired effortlessly with my chic black lace blouse, and the whole look gave off a stylish, carefree, yet timeless feel. Perfect for navigating the bustling streets of the capital of Italy.

On Tuesday evening, I decided to treat myself to a lovely Italian dinner at a charming trattoria tucked away in a backstreet near the Spanish Steps. Of course, my favourite pink tutu made an appearance for the evening; it went beautifully with my new, brightly-coloured summery dress that I picked up in Florence earlier in the week.

Wednesday morning began with a sunrise stroll around The Vatican. The soft light cascading over the ancient buildings and monuments was magical and surreal, and I must say, there wasn’t a single place in Rome where I didn’t feel the urge to pirouette or perform a little jeté! Even with my tutu - yes, I chose to brave the Italian sunshine in it - I felt totally at ease. In fact, a local street performer even asked if I wanted to join him for a dance at a busker's corner! It was so charming.

And now, darling, the pièce de résistance - tonight, we are attending a fabulous ballet performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! I’m ecstatic to experience the world-renowned talent of Italian ballet in one of Europe's most opulent opera houses. Can you even imagine?! I have my most elaborate tutu - a three-tiered marvel in a rich ruby pink, that shimmers in the soft light of the stage. You can just bet, I'll be snapping a few photos to share with you all on the Pink Tutu website!

Oh, I have so many exciting plans for the next few days – exploring the Pantheon, tossing a coin in the Trevi Fountain, and of course, indulging in the culinary delights of Italy - especially the gelato! But I know you don't want to be reading this until Friday, so let me fill you in on what I did earlier today...

My Day So Far...

This morning, after a rather extravagant breakfast of cappuccino and freshly baked croissants, we went on an exciting exploration of Piazza Navona, a stunning baroque square with artists, street performers, and an abundance of charming cafés. It was so picturesque, it almost seemed like stepping into a scene from a movie set! I just couldn't resist buying a beautifully painted fan that now matches my Roma tutu perfectly, and I even got to take a photo with a charismatic street artist, his paintbrush flying as he mimicked the movement of my swirling tutu!

Then, after a leisurely lunch with an incredible view over the Tiber River, we wandered down narrow cobblestone alleys lined with unique boutiques, vintage shops and quirky art galleries. Let me tell you, it was fashion heaven! I spotted the most adorable embroidered floral pouch in one little store, it would look amazing paired with my Roma tutu, so I just had to add it to my collection.

We also went into a tiny shop dedicated entirely to pink things! They had everything imaginable – from fluffy pink bunny toys to antique porcelain teacups to – drumroll please – an entire wall covered in pink tutus! Can you imagine? You wouldn’t believe the colours, the lengths, the different fabrics. It was like stepping into a rainbow of twirls and it made me so, so happy! Of course, I indulged myself and bought a stunning pink rose-gold satin ribbon that I can’t wait to add to one of my favourite tutus!

Pink Tutu Inspiration...

Rome is just brimming with inspiration for pink tutu wear! I saw the most stylishly dressed Romans in their bold colours, their clothes flowing like poetry. They have such an easy, graceful elegance, much like the spirit of a ballet dancer, wouldn’t you say?

Everywhere I look, the pink theme just keeps on popping up. From the vibrant flowers spilling out of balconies and garden boxes, to the vibrant pink walls of charming villas, to the cheeky pink ice cream cones being enjoyed by giggling children.

It’s enough to make any tutu-wearing enthusiast, well, happy as a clam in a bowl of buttercream!

Coming Up Next...

Tomorrow, we’re visiting the beautiful Borghese Gallery and Gardens. I hear it’s an absolutely stunning space and a must-see for any visitor to Rome! Of course, you know I’ll be donning one of my favourite tutus to wander through its sculpted beauty.

And then, on Friday, it's a little shopping spree, indulging in Italian fashion and more pink accessories! Who can resist a new shoe or two (or maybe even three!) with a sparkly pink handbag to match?

I can't wait to share more of my Rome adventures with you, darlings!

Remember, everyone, remember, "Pink Is Power!" And wear that tutu, embrace your inner ballerina, and twirl your way through life with confidence and grace.

Ciao, from your pink tutu-wearing, Italy-loving, friend, Emma
