Pink Tutu Rome: Week 652: "Bellissimo Roma!"

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Wednesday, so you know what that means - time for another Pink Tutu Rome adventure! This week, I've traded the cobbled streets of Derbyshire for the stunning boulevards of Rome. This is my third time visiting the Eternal City, and I simply cannot get enough of its charm, history, and - most importantly - its fashion.

It feels so good to be back in a place where colour, creativity, and history all intertwine. I am always inspired by Italian style; the way they effortlessly mix old and new, classic and bold, always with a touch of chic flair. You wouldn't believe the gorgeous little boutiques tucked away on narrow streets, and of course, I've been on a mission to unearth some Italian treasures for my wardrobe.

This trip, however, is less about me and more about immersing myself in the rich tapestry of Roman culture. I mean, I simply had to witness a ballet performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. It's one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, and the performances there are always sensational. I snagged a fabulous seat and settled in for an evening of breathtaking artistry. As a ballerina at heart, the sheer skill and emotion on stage absolutely took my breath away. I was enthralled from beginning to end. It truly reminded me of the power of ballet and the joy it can bring to people.

Speaking of joy, this city just oozes it! From the laughter echoing through bustling piazzas to the friendly smiles of locals enjoying their gelato, it's a constant reminder to stop and appreciate the simple pleasures in life. Rome is certainly a city for all senses. The delicious aroma of fresh pasta and espresso in the air, the vibrant colours of the flowers adorning every corner, the melody of street musicians playing timeless Italian songs, and of course, the beautiful ancient architecture.

I spent the day wandering through the majestic Colosseum, feeling the ghosts of gladiators and emperors linger in the air. The Forum was an absolute marvel, I stood there surrounded by history, imagining the city as it once was, buzzing with life and power. I felt such a deep connection to the past and was struck by the incredible skill and determination of the Romans who built such magnificent structures.

Later in the afternoon, I strolled along Via dei Condotti, Rome's famed shopping street, filled with luxury boutiques. Let's be honest, this fashionista couldn't resist some window shopping. Every store seemed to be brimming with fabulousness, and the vibrant displays made my heart flutter with anticipation. Though, I can't lie, I was particularly charmed by a quaint little shop on a side street filled with handcrafted ceramics, featuring delicate flower designs. Talk about unique souvenirs! I'm coming back home with my shopping bags overflowing with goodies!

As evening settled over the city, I found myself at the Pantheon. The architecture is truly mind-blowing; I gazed at the perfectly crafted dome with a feeling of wonder and awe. This is what makes Rome truly special – a unique blend of history and present-day vibrancy, offering something for everyone. You can spend hours wandering the historic sites and then find yourself in a lively bar on a buzzing side street.

I'll admit, it was quite tiring after a long day of exploring, but the feeling of exhilaration kept me going! I decided to celebrate the end of another fantastic day with a romantic, candlelit dinner at a charming trattoria hidden away on a cobblestone street. The aromas, the flavours, and the ambiance made for a truly unforgettable experience. Of course, my delicious meal was followed by an extra large scoop of gelato – tiramisu flavour, naturally!

The one thing I'm trying to do this trip is to immerse myself in the true rhythm of this historic city. This means soaking up the energy of bustling markets, indulging in the delightful street food, and simply allowing myself to be swept away by the spirit of this vibrant metropolis. It also means venturing off the well-trodden tourist trail, discovering hidden gems and experiencing Rome like a local.

So, what did I wear this week, darlings? You knew that question was coming, right? My Rome wardrobe is all about mixing Italian style with my own signature flair, of course! This week, I've been wearing a chic linen dress with a delicate floral print paired with a fabulous pair of ruby red sandals. This outfit exudes classic Italian elegance, perfect for navigating the city's cobblestone streets and embracing the sun-drenched days. But the true highlight, of course, is my pink tutu, making a splash in the Roman streets!

And here's a little insider tip from your very own Pink Tutu blogger: The people here are some of the kindest, warmest individuals I've ever encountered. The Romans are passionate about their city and are more than happy to offer advice, point you in the right direction, and share their local tips. Just remember to try your best Italian - even if it's just a friendly "ciao" – and you'll find yourself being welcomed with open arms.

Stay tuned next week, darlings, because I have another exciting adventure planned – I’m venturing into the heart of Rome’s most celebrated art district, full of galleries and ateliers, and a little bird told me I may even meet a famous artist! Until then, happy travelling, stay fabulous, and remember… spread the pink tutu love!

Love, Emma xx
