Ciao bellas!
It's me, Emma, back with another Pink Tutu adventure, this time straight from the heart of Rome! I know, I know, you're probably thinking "Emma, Rome? What's a pink tutu doing in Rome?" Well, my lovelies, let me tell you, this city is positively overflowing with inspiration. From the breathtaking Colosseum to the incredible artwork in the Vatican, the ancient grandeur of Rome meets the modern, fashion-forward heartbeat of Italy, creating a mix that is pure magic!
As you know, I fund my travels through the magic of ballet - performing, of course, in my signature pink tutu. It's funny how many people stop me to say hello when they see me strutting down the street! Rome was no different. People were pointing and grinning - I'm pretty sure a little old lady even tried to touch my tutu! Honestly, it just makes my day, spreading a little pink magic wherever I go.
This week, Rome has been a real whirlwind of pink-tastic activities. First, I caught a fabulous performance of the 'Swan Lake' at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. It was amazing, seeing the swans' grace against the backdrop of this stunning historical theatre. There's nothing quite like the elegance of ballet against such a backdrop. You could say it gave me quite the inspiration for my latest ballet choreography! Don't worry, you'll all see it at my next performance – back in good ol' Derbyshire, mind you! It's all about showcasing talent and reminding everyone just how beautiful and inspiring ballet truly is.
Now, onto my favourite part: the fashion scene! Rome is a paradise for a fashion-loving ballerina like myself. You know, they say when in Rome, do as the Romans do… and when in Rome, one should absolutely shop. Forget the Coliseum, forget the Vatican - the shops in Rome are divine! From tiny, hidden boutiques to the big-name labels, there's something for everyone and everything is so stylish. The cobbled streets are like catwalks! And naturally, I had to get myself some souvenirs – the most amazing pair of bright pink leather sandals. I practically danced out of the shop! I mean, how can you resist that? Pink shoes, pink tutu - is it any surprise I couldn't pass them up?
However, shopping isn't the only way to experience the fashion of Rome. It’s all about the details, my lovelies. I loved watching the Romans dress up. There's a certain je ne sais quoi in the way they style themselves - so effortlessly elegant, from the way they tie their scarves to their choice of bold earrings. And even though it's a fashion haven, you still feel so relaxed and free, like the city truly embodies "la dolce vita".
Now, this Wednesday wouldn't be complete without some Pink Tutu inspired shenanigans. So, of course, I had to find a little balcony where I could get a gorgeous view of the city. Wearing my pinkest, twirliest tutu, I twirled in the Roman sunlight. Honestly, my lovelies, you would not believe how happy it makes me feel - a ballerina on a rooftop, against the stunning panorama of Rome. It's all about feeling the magic, and there's nothing quite like twirling in your tutu while overlooking the most breathtaking city in the world.
Don't worry, I haven't forgotten the food! The pasta, my darlings, the pasta! It's unlike anything I've ever tasted! I've tried all kinds, from carbonara to ravioli, but my favourite is definitely the simple pasta aglio e olio, so fresh and garlicky - delicious!
Speaking of food, did you know that Roman pizza has a secret ingredient? I had the chance to meet up with a local pizza maker and he gave me the inside scoop - it’s apparently a touch of sugar. Who would have thought! I must admit, it definitely made my pizza taste more special.
It’s all about finding the joy in the small details, darling! There's so much to discover in Rome. I'm already looking forward to my next adventure here, maybe taking a trip down the Trevi Fountain, a quick jaunt to the Spanish Steps, or a picnic at the Villa Borghese, dressed in, you guessed it, my trusty pink tutu! I can't wait to see what Roman beauty awaits next!
