Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! (Post #679)

Wednesday, 2008-06-11

Buongiorno, darling tutu enthusiasts! It's Emma here, fresh off the train from Florence, and my goodness, you wouldn't believe what I saw on my way here. As my train snaked its way through the Tuscan countryside, the sun glistened off the terracotta roofs of quaint little villages. It was like something out of a fairytale, and I'm telling you, even a seasoned tutu-wearing traveller like myself got swept away by the charm.

Speaking of charm, can we talk about Rome? I mean, come on, this city just exudes a certain je ne sais quoi. I arrived at Termini Station earlier this afternoon, a pink tutu swishing proudly amidst the bustling crowd, and immediately I felt like I was walking on set for a vintage Roman film. I had my trusty, rose-gold suitcase and a suitcase overflowing with sparkly pink attire that I just knew would be perfect for this fabulous city.

Right now, I'm perched on a balcony overlooking the charming Piazza Navona, sipping an Aperol spritz and taking in the lively atmosphere. I'm just across the street from the magnificent Pantheon, a testament to Roman ingenuity and grandeur. It's hard to believe I'm here! I had to do a quick little pirouette to make sure this wasn't all a dream!

This trip has already been an incredible whirlwind. After weeks of back-to-back performances in the UK, from a fundraising show at a Derbyshire school to a breathtaking ballet concert at the Royal Opera House, I was absolutely bursting with excitement to hop aboard that train and head to Italy.

You see, darling, travel is in my blood. Ever since I was a little girl, my heart has been set on exploring the world. But I wasn't going to let those travel dreams take the back seat to ballet โ€“ Iโ€™m determined to do both! So, I decided to channel my inner entrepreneur and find a way to fuel my love for travel through ballet itself.

Thankfully, my dedication has paid off. My dance card is constantly brimming with performances and private lessons, which gives me enough funding to travel to places like Rome, explore its beautiful corners, and immerse myself in all its beauty.

The only problem? My wardrobe. When you're a girl like me who lives and breathes ballet, travelling becomes a challenge because I just need a little bit more wardrobe than the average holiday maker. My solution? Pink tulle is remarkably lightweight!

Speaking of fashion, oh my word, the shopping here! From designer boutiques to quirky little vintage shops, Rome is a paradise for a shopaholic ballerina like myself. I'm planning on visiting every single boutique in the city, with an emphasis on vintage lace for a few new tutus โ€“ let's just say, the pink wardrobe is growing even larger!

Tonight, my darlings, Iโ€™m excited for an unforgettable experience โ€“ an outdoor ballet performance right here in Piazza Navona. Can you believe it? The perfect combination of art and travel! The atmosphere is going to be electric and the moonlight is set to be a beautiful backdrop for an exquisite performance. I'll tell you all about it in my next post.

In the meantime, have you been to Rome? Any recommendations for a ballerina in a pink tutu? Share your thoughts in the comments below, darlings!

Until next time,

Emma xoxo
