Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2008-06-04 - Ciao Bella! ๐Ÿฉฐ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น

Well, darling, buckle up your dancing shoes, because this week's Pink Tutu adventure takes us to the Eternal City, Rome! It's post number 678 for my Rome blog, which drops every Wednesday on www.pink-tutu.com, as you know. As ever, this trip is fuelled by the magic of ballet, and I'm absolutely brimming with excitement to share the latest escapade with you!

Before we hop on the train (and oh, how I adore those clattering wheels and scenic views!), a quick update on what's been keeping me twirling in Derbyshire. I had the absolute pleasure of performing at the Matlock Gala last Saturday, and let me tell you, those country folk know how to throw a party! My rendition of the Sugar Plum Fairy was a smash hit, and I swear, I saw a little girl in the audience sporting a pink tutu of her own. I'm telling you, the pink tutu revolution is in full swing!

And now, onto Rome! It was a lovely long train ride, giving me ample time to admire the changing landscapes and dream about the adventures that lay ahead. I couldn't resist indulging in some Italian delicacies โ€“ think fresh bread, creamy cheeses, and rich coffee, all washed down with a chilled bottle of Pinot Grigio. Of course, I dressed the part with a flowing, cherry-red maxi skirt and a shimmering pink scarf, topped off with a pair of statement earrings. It's all about keeping the "pink-tutu" spirit alive, even when exploring ancient cities, you know?

Landing in Rome felt like stepping into a scene from a classic movie, with cobblestone streets, vibrant flower stalls, and the tantalising aroma of fresh pasta and garlic in the air. My trusty vintage suitcase (complete with a glittery pink bow, obviously!) was promptly deposited at the charming boutique hotel nestled near the Spanish Steps. The room is all rustic charm, with exposed brick walls and terracotta floors, but I've already added my own touch with some fluffy pink cushions and a strategically placed sequin tablecloth.

So, what has this Roman whirlwind of a day in store? Well, darling, first things first, we are going shopping! I hear there are fabulous vintage stores tucked away in the winding streets of the Trastevere neighbourhood, and I just know they'll be bursting with exquisite vintage silk scarves and perfectly worn leather boots. Who can resist a little bit of fashion therapy when surrounded by such historical grandeur?

But let's not forget the heart of Rome โ€“ its artistic spirit. This evening, I'm venturing out to witness a breathtaking performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the majestic opera house with its golden statues and velvety crimson seats. It's said to be a symphony for all the senses, and you can bet your tutu I won't be missing it! I'm dreaming of witnessing graceful ballerinas twirling across the stage, their costumes shimmering under the spotlight, with the orchestra's soaring music transporting us all to another dimension. Now, if that doesn't get your heart racing, I don't know what will!

Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without a wander through the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, those awe-inspiring testaments to a civilisation that was once as vibrant and bustling as our beloved city today. I picture myself gracefully skipping through the ancient ruins, imagining the gladiators' cheers echoing through the air and the bustling life of a thriving empire. Imagine those ancient Romans seeing a girl twirling through their magnificent ruins in a pink tutu! Now that would be a story worth telling!

Speaking of stories, my darling, I'm brimming with more adventures to share in the weeks to come. I'll be visiting the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel, marveling at Michelangelo's incredible art and the sheer grandeur of the papacy. And, of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without indulging in all the delicious Italian cuisine, from creamy pasta dishes and wood-fired pizzas to delectable gelatos and creamy cappuccinos.

Oh, the adventures that await! This city is calling my name, my dear, and I can hardly wait to delve deeper into its captivating culture, artistic heart, and fashion secrets. Remember, darling, keep your tutus ready and your spirits high, as I'm determined to spread the pink-tutu love wherever I go. See you next Wednesday for more adventures from the heart of Rome!

Until then,

Emma xxx
