Pink Tutu Rome #686: A Roman Holiday (with a Twirl!)
Wednesday 30th July 2008
Ciao, darlings!
This week, Pink Tutu takes you to the heart of the Eternal City: Rome! Now, you might be thinking, "Emma, Rome? Doesn't that sound a bit…serious?" And you know what, you're absolutely right! But fear not, my lovelies, because even in the land of ancient history, one can find a splash of pink and a whole lotta twirling. After all, what’s a trip to Italy without a little drama, a pinch of fashion, and, of course, a touch of ballet?
As you know, I'm a firm believer that tutus and travel are a match made in heaven. This whole "travelling ballerina" thing isn't just a whimsical notion – it's a lifestyle, and one that's taking me to some seriously fabulous places. And this time, darling, I’ve done it again!
So how did I end up in Rome, you ask? Well, my dear, it all started with a fantastic ballet performance back home in Derbyshire. Let me tell you, the audience went wild. The standing ovations just wouldn't stop, and with every burst of applause, I could feel the Italian energy calling me. (It's no secret I’m slightly obsessed with all things Italian – their fashion, their food, their flair – I simply adore it!)
With a bit of cunning and a whole lotta dancing, I secured enough funds to make my Roman dream a reality. Now, you know me – I can't travel without a carefully curated wardrobe. And you'll never believe this: I snagged a gorgeous, shimmering pink tutu especially for the occasion. This tutu, darling, is a true statement piece. Imagine layers of pink tulle, adorned with tiny silver sequins that catch the light like magic. A pink tutu fit for a princess exploring ancient ruins. It truly was the perfect accessory to bring a bit of Pink Tutu sparkle to this incredible city!
The journey from Derbyshire to Rome, oh my darling, it was a dream! A high-speed train whizzing past rolling green hills, charming countryside, and, finally, arriving in a station buzzing with a vibrant energy that you could practically taste! My heart was bursting with excitement.
After settling into my cute little boutique hotel in Trastevere – an adorable, cobbled neighbourhood overflowing with charm – I couldn’t resist stepping out to explore. Rome truly is a city of breathtaking contrasts, don’t you think?
We walked down ancient cobbled streets with my favourite fuchsia-pink scarf billowing in the breeze, passed elegant fountains adorned with Roman sculptures, and gasped at the stunning panorama of the city from the top of the Spanish Steps. My little pink tutu peeked out from underneath my floaty maxi skirt and sparked a thousand smiles as we passed.
Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without some serious pasta appreciation. We savoured authentic Roman dishes at a little, hidden trattoria where we talked about life, love, and ballet while the owner’s granddaughter played her tiny violin. Oh, how the sound of her violin carried me away. I can’t wait to get back to ballet classes to practise and let the beauty of this melody inspire me!
This Wednesday, our Roman adventure continued with a trip to the Colosseum. This historical landmark was something else, darlings. The sheer scale of this ancient amphitheatre, and its whispered history of gladiators and games, left me speechless.
After a whirlwind day of historical sights, my pink tutu, slightly battered by a gentle breeze as we travelled, became the perfect comfort blanket for a delicious gelato break, eaten while strolling through a local park with a captivating view of the city. You know what I say: always keep a little room for a bit of sweet indulgence.
Tomorrow’s an early morning, because I have tickets for a ballerina’s dream: a private ballet performance at the Teatro dell’Opera. You’re looking at one very happy ballerina! I'm not just going to be watching; darling, I have a surprise in store for all you Pink Tutu lovers. Keep your eyes peeled on this blog because you don't want to miss this special announcement!
So stay tuned, my darlings, for a backstage peek into the world of ballet in the heart of Rome. There’s much more pink tutu magic to come…Ciao, and remember, you are all absolutely beautiful.
Lots of love,
Emma x
