Pink Tutu Rome: Post #688: Wednesday, 13th August 2008 - Roman Revelations!

Ciao Bella!

It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means… another Pink Tutu Rome blog post! This week, I'm sharing my latest adventures from the Eternal City – a place that's overflowing with history, culture, and, dare I say it, an element of sheer fabulousness that's just begging for a touch of pink tulle!

As always, I'm making the most of my time in Rome, flitting between mesmerising sights and the delightful clatter of cobblestone streets. I've even managed to squeeze in a few dance classes, much to the delight of my Italian classmates! It seems the universal language of ballet transcends borders, leaving everyone giggling and graceful as we stretch, plié, and pirouette through the motions.

Speaking of graceful, Rome truly is a stunning city, with a unique blend of ancient and modern that leaves me feeling constantly enthralled. This week, I decided to venture further afield and hopped on a train (I simply adore travelling by train!) to the nearby town of Ostia Antica, where the remains of an ancient Roman port city lie tucked away, just waiting to be explored.

Ostia Antica: Where History Meets Pink

Ostia Antica was once a bustling Roman harbour, with streets lined with shops, bath houses, temples, and even an amphitheatre. Walking through the ruins, I was instantly transported back in time. Imagine the energy of those cobblestone streets bustling with merchants, Roman soldiers, and curious onlookers!

Despite its age, Ostia Antica still possessed a touch of whimsy. There was a charming café tucked away in the ruins where I stopped for a cappuccino, surrounded by crumbling brick walls and vibrant green ivy. This café served up the most delicious focaccia with an array of flavours, including one with fresh figs, my favourite! The smell was just divine!

My favourite find was a preserved ancient mosaic floor featuring a depiction of two graceful ballerinas, complete with elegant poses and swirling tutus! They reminded me of my very own tutus, and my heart fluttered with delight! I just had to get a picture in front of it for my Instagram, of course. It felt like fate was aligning the cosmos of pink tutus and Roman history for a magnificent photo op!

Ballet Dreams and Shopping Sprees

While exploring Ostia Antica, my thoughts drifted to the exciting performances that lie ahead. My current tour is funding a trip to Venice, a place that simply sings to my ballet soul. I can almost see myself swirling across the grand stage at Teatro La Fenice, the chandeliers shimmering overhead, the applause echoing through the air... and my own pink tulle glittering under the lights!

Oh, but back to reality! After my day of exploring, I decided to reward myself with a bit of shopping therapy on Rome's Via Condotti, where the finest fashion houses grace the cobblestone streets with their glamour and allure. Of course, I couldn’t leave without a new pink accessory. I’m planning a special Parisian pink outfit for my next trip, and I couldn’t resist an enchanting pink beret from the Italian designer, Armani, just for that special Parisian touch.

As I wandered the streets, I couldn't help but imagine the beautiful ladies who once strolled through the shops here. They must have been just as fashionable as we are today, sporting the most elegant silk dresses, delicate parasols, and even a sprinkle of pink tulle. It felt like I had stepped into a fashion film, where historical and modern style came together in a captivating dance.

Rome's Enchanted Twilight

Tonight, I plan to see an opera performance at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, a spectacle I’ve been anticipating since arriving in this incredible city. Opera is such a delightful art form, combining incredible vocals, stunning costumes, and stories full of drama and emotion. I can’t wait to see what theatrical wonders await within the walls of this magnificent theatre!

However, for now, I’ll indulge in a delicious dinner of Pasta Carbonara (it truly is heavenly!), accompanied by a crisp glass of local Italian wine.

If you are thinking of visiting Rome, don’t hesitate, just pack your bags and join me! There’s truly something magical about this city, from its vibrant energy to the quiet grandeur of its ancient ruins.

Until next Wednesday, stay fabulous and don’t forget to spread the love of pink tutus!

XOXO, Emma
