Pink Tutu Rome: Post #703 – The Eternal City’s Enchanted Spell

Wednesday 26th November 2008

Ciao, darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-clad adventurer here, back from the most magical journey! Last week, I left you with a whisper of excitement as I announced my grand departure for the eternal city, Rome! Oh, my dears, I must tell you, Rome has lived up to every single one of my dreams. This place is like stepping into a film, a technicolour dream where cobbled streets twist and turn, revealing treasures around every corner.

Let me tell you all about my Roman adventure!

A Train Ride Fit for a Princess

First things first, the journey to Rome. A trip on the Eurostar? The ultimate luxury! I simply adore train travel. Something about the gentle rocking, the delicious snacks, and the views flying past your window makes me feel like a princess escaping from her castle. Of course, no train trip would be complete without a touch of pink. This time, I chose a bright, bubblegum pink cashmere scarf and my trusty rose-gold ballet pumps – just the perfect blend of comfy and stylish.

As I glided into the Italian capital, the scent of freshly brewed espresso hit my senses. That delicious, almost smoky aroma was like a warm hug welcoming me to the heart of the city. My darling friend Isabella (who is absolutely the epitome of Roman chic) met me at the station, and within moments we were sipping lattes and discussing the endless possibilities of Rome’s sartorial landscape.

Fashion Fiesta at the Pantheon

Oh, Isabella knows all the best places. This afternoon, she took me to the most extraordinary vintage market just off the Piazza Navona. We spent hours rummaging through dusty trunks and elegant displays, and my heart soared with each new discovery! From beautifully crafted silk scarves in shades of coral and teal to velvet jackets with the most captivating vintage details, this market was a treasure trove of Italian fashion history.

Imagine my excitement when I unearthed a vintage velvet dress, a deep sapphire blue, that just screamed “Roman holiday!” It was like it was waiting for me – destined to be worn under the twinkling lights of a Roman night!

Speaking of lights, after our vintage shopping spree, we made our way to the Pantheon. This remarkable structure is awe-inspiring, its grandeur truly unmatched. Standing in its vast, silent hall, bathed in the warm, filtered sunlight streaming through the oculus, felt like a sacred moment. And just imagine, I had my beautiful pink tutu nestled within my bag, waiting for the perfect opportunity to make its debut!

A Romantic Ballet in a Magical Setting

Of course, a trip to Rome would be incomplete without a ballet. My darling Isabella knows all the best venues in town, and she took me to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. The building is an architectural gem, the theatre interior resplendent with gold leaf, plush red velvet seating, and beautiful frescos on the walls. Tonight's performance was "Giselle", and it was beyond breathtaking. The delicate grace and haunting beauty of the ballet were amplified by the setting - the perfect blend of passion and artistry.

After the performance, we wandered through the moonlit streets, the air buzzing with the sweet music of Rome. We stopped for gelato – an absolute necessity in this city, darling! - the strawberry sorbet was perfection. My tummy happy and my heart full, I wandered back to my hotel, a charming little pensione just a few streets away from the Colosseum.

Rome is a city of whispers and ancient stories, a place where the past dances hand in hand with the present. I can’t wait to see what this wonderful city has in store for me next!

Stay tuned, my dears! And don’t forget to put on your pink tutus – the world is your stage, ready to be adorned with joy and grace!

XOXO,
