Pink Tutu Rome: Post 708 - New Year's Eve in the Eternal City!
Happy New Year, darlings! Can you believe it's already 2009? Feels like only yesterday I was twirling in the cobbled streets of Derbyshire, dreaming of a year full of adventures. And, well, this year certainly hasn't disappointed! Today, I'm writing from Rome, a city that makes my heart skip a beat every time I see those glorious Roman ruins.
I've spent the last week soaking up the sunshine, marveling at the architectural masterpieces, and of course, indulging in some fabulous Italian shopping sprees! Honestly, it's been absolute bliss, and this New Year's Eve in Rome promises to be a dazzling affair.
I must admit, I haven't exactly been subtle during my travels. I mean, a pink tutu does tend to stand out amongst the ancient marble statues, but who wants to be subtle when you can embrace a little fabulousness, right? My arrival at Termini station, in my pink tutu and trusty travel bag, must have turned a few heads. But that's all part of the fun, darling!
Speaking of Termini, my love affair with train travel continues to blossom. Nothing beats the romance of zipping through charming towns, sipping on hot chocolate, and getting lost in a good book (currently, it's โThe Picture of Dorian Gray,โ a deliciously gothic read that perfectly complements the enchanting atmosphere of Rome!).
This week's performances at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma have been spectacular, leaving me breathless. There's something utterly captivating about the soaring ceilings, the red velvet seats, and the way the air seems to crackle with anticipation as the lights dim and the orchestra starts to play. My favourite part, of course, was watching a spectacular ballet adaptation of The Three Musketeers. I almost got swept up in the performance myself, and I think I even caught the eye of the Duke, although who knows if he really liked my look or simply enjoyed the sight of my sparkly pink tutu in the middle of a grand performance.
Speaking of my darling tutu, it's been on quite the adventure this week. Itโs seen more Roman statues and fountains than Iโve ever seen in my life, and it even got a few extra twirls inside the Pantheon! The marble columns are breathtakingly beautiful, but honestly, what really captured my imagination was the gorgeous open-air space, the way the sunlight bathes everything in an ethereal glow. It was perfect for impromptu ballet moves, let me tell you!
The food, of course, has been utterly delicious! From steaming plates of pasta in little trattorias to the decadent gelato shops lining the streets, I'm certainly not leaving with any spare inches on my waist. It's worth it, though! The fresh ingredients, the bold flavors โ every bite is a burst of sunshine in my mouth. And, for my final treat, I picked up a stunning, silky red dress perfect for my New Year's Eve dinner tonight.
Speaking of New Year's Eve, I can't wait to ring in 2009 amidst the lights of Rome. I'm picturing a magical evening, filled with delicious food, sparkling wine, and maybe even a little impromptu ballet on the Piazza di Spagna โ or, perhaps even the Colosseum itself, depending on the crowds!
This trip has been nothing short of extraordinary. Rome has completely captured my heart, from its breathtaking architecture to its lively atmosphere, its passionate people, and its mouth-watering cuisine. Iโm planning to extend my stay another week โ how can I leave so much beauty behind? And I'm leaving feeling inspired โ so inspired that I've even come up with a new goal for my life: get everyone wearing a pink tutu! I know, a slightly ambitious goal, but hey, you never know โ perhaps we can conquer the world, one twirling pink tutu at a time!
As the sun begins to set, casting long shadows over the ancient ruins, I bid you adieu, my lovely readers! Until next Wednesday, keep twirling!
Ciao bella!
Emma
(P.S. Be sure to check back next Wednesday for my adventures in the city of Florence! I canโt wait to explore the artistic marvels of this enchanting city and hopefully capture it in my Pink Tutu posts.)
