Pink Tutu Rome: Post #712 - Roman Holiday! (Wednesday, 28th January, 2009)

Ciao bellas!

Well, here I am, nestled in a quaint little trattoria in the heart of Rome, enjoying the most delicious pasta al pesto, all whilst planning my next ballet adventures in this amazing city!

You know I canā€™t resist a bit of "Pink Tutu" travelling and today is the day to unleash the fashionista inside! And the only way to travel for me is by train. It's like my personal fairytale carriage whisking me away to my next destination - this time it's Rome, the Eternal City!

This trip is all about the performing arts - I'm so excited to immerse myself in the vibrant cultural scene of Rome, which just so happens to have one of the oldest and most renowned opera houses in the world, Teatro dellā€™Opera di Roma. Imagine a stage adorned in beautiful velvet, lit by a chandelier that shimmers with a thousand crystals - I can barely contain myself!

On this particular Wednesday, the schedule includes a breathtaking performance of Puccini's masterpiece, Tosca! The sheer power of opera coupled with the timeless charm of this beautiful Italian city? It's enough to send shivers down your spine, and leave you utterly speechless. But hey, you know what makes this even more magical? Pink tutu alert! This time, my outfit was inspired by the iconic Tosca herself. Think bold crimson, delicate lace and a tutu just begging for a twirl.

After a morning spent exploring the picturesque Campo de' Fiori, indulging in some truly scrumptious coffee and indulging in the art of "people watching" (a skill perfected in Derbyshire, I can tell you!) it was time for my grand ballet experience. It's so amazing to me how ballet travels across time and space and the fact that I get to watch such breathtaking performances all around the world is nothing short of miraculous. It was magical watching Tosca unravel on stage, all in my "Pink Tutu" ensemble.

Speaking of tutus, there is a little store in Rome tucked away in a back alley called "Tutus & Dreams." Theyā€™ve got every shade and style imaginable - even the most daringly whimsical designs you could dream of! Youā€™d be hard-pressed to resist a bit of tutu shopping there.

Tomorrow I'm going to take a detour and explore the historic Pantheon! Itā€™s said to be the best-preserved Ancient Roman temple and I am simply brimming with excitement! This gorgeous Roman treasure houses fascinating sculptures and stunning artwork and you can practically feel the weight of history within those ancient walls. I simply must have some lovely photos of me in front of that iconic building, but not without a perfectly planned, slightly dramatic pink tutu ensemble, of course. You've just got to strike the right pose to showcase the magnificent surroundings of this iconic landmark - it's truly an inspiration for a future tutu design, wouldnā€™t you agree? The "Pantheon Pink Tutu" will have an alluring vintage look with some of the original Pantheon colours like deep blues, soft greens, and that oh so classic ivory shade for an air of timelessness, with a touch of whimsy of course, with delicate lace ruffles and hints of sparkle for a bit of Italian glamour.

The city itself has a wonderful vibrancy and it feels as though I am surrounded by magic at every turn. Itā€™s almost as if Rome is humming a little tune and it's making every cobblestone street feel a little more exciting! Every street, every nook, every alley seems to pulse with life. From the historical grandeur of ancient monuments to the modern bustle of local markets, there's simply an undeniable aura of artistic and cultural energy around every corner in this amazing city. It is simply bursting with inspiration and my mind is already starting to fill with all sorts of exciting ballet routine ideas.

Talking about inspiring, the sheer fashion forwardness of this place has really been invigorating me - the fashion on display here is daring, eccentric, and it all speaks to that certain sense of joy I crave! This place is brimming with fashionista soul! Every time I venture into a local boutique or stroll down a stylish Roman street, it feels like a "Pink Tutu" runway show, and I feel like I am being whisked away into an Italian dream world of designer creations and stunning sartorial displays! Of course, this makes my little "Pink Tutu" heart skip a beat because all that fabulous fashion inevitably finds its way into my personal ballet routine inspirations - I've been taking note of every single detail - itā€™s a real inspiration, just look at the amazing footwear! Those vibrant colours and textures combined with a certain graceful flair that is all about Roman fashion just speaks to me. Itā€™s going to be another sensational ā€œPink Tutuā€ dance creation.

I simply have to bring a little touch of Derbyshire to this Roman landscape and that means embracing those romantic florals and intricate lace patterns for a touch of elegance, and the perfect opportunity to channel some feminine energy, something that resonates deeply within my core, wouldn't you agree? That touch of pink, those floral patterns - just pure dreamy, and of course, no outfit is complete without a touch of ā€œPink Tutu" flare, for my Roman dance adventure - you know I like to match the city's personality!

Of course, no Italian holiday would be complete without sampling the local delicacies. Gelato is an absolute must - and Iā€™ve been indulging in scoops of ā€˜Pistachioā€™ and ā€˜Hazelnutā€™, the two favourites I am already savouring and sharing with the wonderful people who surround me. (Yes, I am always keen on a friendly face! ) I must admit, they are pure bliss, and you know what else makes my heart sing? Pink Tutu Tip Alert! The tiny pink floral patterns decorating those charming gelateria cafes - perfect for your ā€œPink Tutu" feed - it's not just about the colours, itā€™s the feeling they evoke. Oh, and did I mention I am having my very own Italian coffee moment at a cafe with pink awnings - it's a "Pink Tutu" dream come true, and it's moments like this that make my travelling journey worthwhile.

Rome, you are a true gem of a city, you have taken my "Pink Tutu" heart by storm, and I feel a part of your magical landscape. So, until next week, bella!
