Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2009-02-25 - Post #716

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma here, and I'm so excited to be writing to you from the Eternal City - Rome! My trusty pink tutu, my trusty travel companion, has come all the way with me, and oh boy, is she having a time! This week's blog post comes to you direct from a quaint little cafe on Via dei Fori Imperiali, where the smell of freshly brewed coffee is mingling deliciously with the ancient grandeur of the Roman Forum.

Let me tell you, arriving in Rome by train is always a special treat. There’s just something about the elegance of Italian railway stations - they exude that old-world glamour with their beautiful archways, gleaming brass fixtures, and that distinct whiff of espresso and cigarette smoke that feels timeless. My little pink tutu has had its head turned more than once by some stylish Italian ladies who clearly know their fashion. I've certainly gotten more than a few envious stares as we sashayed down the platform, which honestly, I can't say I mind!

It’s been such a whirlwind of excitement ever since I arrived. Rome is such a feast for the senses - vibrant colours, delicious smells, charming street scenes, and endless layers of history peeking around every corner. You know me, my little pink tutu and I absolutely love exploring hidden corners, discovering little cafes with checkered tablecloths, and indulging in those exquisite gelato flavours that make you go "ooh la la". It's just divine.

Speaking of divine, have you heard of La Scala in Milan? Well, darling, let me tell you, it’s truly one of the most impressive opera houses I've ever seen, and I was so thrilled to be performing there last week. Seeing that vast auditorium packed to the rafters, feeling the electricity of the audience, and hearing the applause that followed my solo - well, it was an absolutely breathtaking experience. This is what makes it all worthwhile! This is why I put on my sparkly shoes every day, push myself to practice, and wear my pink tutu with such pride. It’s the magic of sharing a passion with so many people - it’s simply a joy, darling!

But, now it’s time to let my little pink tutu stretch her legs in this magnificent city. We’re headed to the Pantheon - I simply must get a picture of myself with my trusty tutlet in front of that spectacular dome. We also plan to indulge in some incredible shopping at Via Condotti and Via del Corso, where I hear you can find the most gorgeous fashions - just waiting to be discovered. It's certainly not hard to get caught up in the beautiful, chic style of Rome. From those classic designer stores to charming little boutiques tucked down alleys - the streets are truly a paradise for fashion lovers. I can already picture it – a little black dress and a fabulous pair of ruby red heels paired perfectly with my pink tutu! (Because every look needs a touch of whimsy, right? 🩰😉)

Now, on to the cultural part of my Roman adventure. Tonight, darling, we’re heading to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma to watch Carmen. Can you believe it?! My dear old friend Annabelle (who's currently rocking the most magnificent emerald-green tutu, you should see it!) tipped me off about this production. She told me that it's set to be quite a spectacle, so I'm naturally brimming with excitement. Imagine – beautiful voices, intricate choreography, captivating stories. Oh, it just makes my heart sing.

Oh, and did I mention that it's also Carnival this week?! Oh yes! Rome is embracing its inner clown with joyous celebrations all around the city. The air is thick with music and laughter, people are wearing extravagant costumes and colourful masks - and honestly, darling, it's quite contagious! There's even a special parade this evening – you simply can’t miss it. So I’ve decided to surprise my pink tutu with a sparkly silver mask to make it an extra-special night out! 😉

But that’s not all, darling! Rome also has this incredible thing called a ballet school. And, if I'm not mistaken, it’s offering a special workshop on pointe work next week. Imagine: the warmth of the Italian sun, the grace of Italian dancers, and the exquisite experience of a special ballet class. I think my little pink tutu may actually be giggling at the mere thought of it!

Of course, no journey to Rome would be complete without trying out those mouth-watering Italian dishes that are simply unmissable. There are so many cafes and restaurants with their inviting menus - it's almost impossible to choose. We’re starting with an amazing, traditional trattoria where Annabelle told me to try spaghetti carbonara (apparently it’s absolutely incredible!), then tomorrow, darling, we’re having pasta alla gricia. Now, this is a real treat! It's a classic Roman dish – a rich sauce with salty cured pork cheeks, Pecorino cheese, and black pepper - simply delightful. I already know I'm going to be tempted by the gelato, the pizzas, and every delectable dessert I come across! I really must try to pace myself – otherwise, my little pink tutu might have a bit of a wardrobe malfunction! 😉

Right then, darlings! It's time to pack up my pink tutu and take a stroll around these captivating streets. There's so much to see and experience here. And if you’re reading this and find yourself longing for the vibrant energy of Rome, the laughter of the city, the enchanting aroma of the local trattorias, well, just remember - it’s a destination that’s just waiting to be discovered! And remember – always, always wear your tutu with pride. 💖

Catch you next Wednesday!

XOXO, Emma www.pink-tutu.com
