Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 2009-04-08 - #722
Ciao Bella!
Welcome to another week of Pink Tutu Rome, the weekly travelogue from the pinkest corner of the Eternal City! This week's adventures were sprinkled with sunshine, a generous dose of gelato, and a pinch of theatrical magic.
Let me tell you, my loves, travelling by train is pure delight. It's such a charming way to soak up the scenery. I felt like I was whisked back to a vintage era of glamour as the Italian countryside whizzed past, dotted with fields of lavender and lemon trees. I had the most amazing views as we travelled through the heart of Italy - I just adore those long, sprawling landscapes! The train journeys were so pleasant. They truly added to the romance of the trip.
Oh, and the station! A bustling haven of Italian life. There were vendors selling colourful flowers, men in sharp suits chatting over espresso, and ladies in beautiful hats waiting for their trains. It was pure visual theatre, my darlings!
Exploring the Coliseum:
After arriving in Rome, I headed straight for the Colosseum. It's simply awe-inspiring. I couldn't resist twirling under its massive arches - the perfect setting for a tutu twirl, wouldn't you agree? The sheer scale of this ancient monument made me feel utterly insignificant, but in the best possible way! Imagine, all those gladiators fighting it out right where I was standing!
You can feel the energy of the past thrumming through the very stones of this grand structure. You really can imagine the crowds roaring and the echoes of battle. This place really did take my breath away - an absolutely unforgettable experience.
Theatrical Dreams:
I am utterly enchanted by the history of the Roman theatre, from ancient performances to the breathtaking opera houses. I'm itching to get a glimpse behind the scenes, and of course, to take in a magnificent opera or ballet! I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for the perfect show while I'm here - maybe an outdoor performance under the stars! Wouldn't that be simply magical?
Shopping for Splendour:
Rome is a fashionista's paradise. I simply couldn't resist a stroll through the luxury boutiques. They are bursting with designer clothes, shoes, and handbags – a dream come true for a fashion-obsessed girl like me! I bought a little something to commemorate my journey - a gorgeous, scarlet red scarf with a delicate pattern - a touch of Roman flair to go with my tutu collection!
The Delicious Flavour of Rome:
Oh my word, the food here! It's an absolute symphony of taste and aromas. My dear friend, Valentina, took me to a local trattoria nestled amongst the narrow streets of Trastevere. The food was incredible! Fresh, local ingredients cooked with such passion. I can’t recommend their spaghetti alla carbonara enough! It’s a must try. It truly captures the heart of Italian cuisine. I must say though, I did take Valentina to an English restaurant later that week to show her what an English cream tea tastes like!
But it wouldn't be Rome without indulging in gelato, right? Imagine creamy, dreamy swirls of strawberry and pistachio melting on your tongue - a little slice of paradise in every scoop. You’re not in Rome without at least two or three of these treats a day!
A Peek Into the Past:
The historical wonders of Rome are everywhere you turn! Ancient ruins peek from behind cobblestone streets, and grand fountains adorn every corner. It’s as though history is whispering stories in every wind. I’ve already fallen head-over-tutu in love with the Trevi Fountain! The most spectacular setting! Imagine all the coins thrown in - apparently, it’s good luck!
A Touch of Romance:
Rome is undeniably romantic. Every corner I turned, there were couples embracing under the Roman sky, enjoying the magic of the city. Walking hand in hand along the River Tiber was just sublime.
Keeping it Real: The Pink Tutu Diaries:
Of course, I can't leave you without some tutu adventures! I'm on a mission to make Rome my very own dance floor! It might seem a bit unusual, but the Romans, they have a good sense of humour! They all had a good giggle as I waltzed around the Roman Forum in my pink tutu - they gave me thumbs up and waved to me! I managed to attract a bit of attention, as usual, in my favourite colour. I mean, when you're in Rome, why not make the most of it! Perhaps there's a pink tutu flashmob in my future…
The Future's Calling:
My time in Rome is going by too fast! The energy of this vibrant city is calling to me – it feels like there is a whole new adventure to be discovered every single day. I’m definitely going to be returning, but this time I’ll need to do it all over again. There's so much more to explore, more food to sample, more history to soak up, more shopping to do, more tutu twirling to be had!
Rome has captured my heart! This magnificent city is truly breathtaking - a magical mixture of historical grandeur, timeless elegance and buzzing life. And, of course, I am absolutely smitten with every shade of pink.
Until next week my darling darlings! Don't forget to follow my blog every Wednesday at www.pink-tutu.com and be sure to tweet your adventures using the #PinkTutuRome tag!

P.S. Just a little bit about me. I'm from Derbyshire, a small, sleepy English village far from the excitement of Rome. To pay for my travelling tutu-filled dreams, I do ballet performances. It’s so nice to have the opportunity to meet lots of wonderful people. My mission is simple – I’m on a quest to make the world a little bit more pink, a little bit more tutu!
