Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! #721

Wednesday, 1st April 2009

Buongiorno, my darlings! It’s Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome post, direct from the Eternal City. The air here is abuzz with the energy of spring - blooming jasmine, chattering sparrows, and the tantalising aroma of fresh bread baking in every corner.

Oh, my sweet dears, this city! Rome truly has it all. History, culture, fashion, food… oh, the food! From perfectly sculpted pasta to melt-in-your-mouth gelato, my taste buds are doing the tango in delight! And it wouldn’t be a true Pink Tutu experience without a healthy dose of fabulous shopping!

I'm not just about pretty frocks and twirling in my tutu, you know. Though let’s be honest, that’s a good chunk of the fun. 😜 I am, first and foremost, a ballerina, and Rome has an extraordinary ballet scene. I’ve already caught two mesmerising performances. The first at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma was utterly magical! Imagine a stage draped in velvet, shimmering chandeliers casting golden light, and a ballet that left me breathless. It felt like dancing on air, both literally and metaphorically. And of course, I had to add a touch of my signature style with my pale pink, hand-beaded tutu - the perfect pop of colour against the deep velvet of the theatre.

But beyond the big performances, the streets of Rome are a ballet in themselves! A captivating display of artistry, life, and movement. Each bustling piazza is a stage for everyday stories: vendors hawking their wares, artists sketching passersby, street musicians filling the air with melodies that seem to swirl like the dust motes in the sunlight.

This week I had a delightful time attending a class at the Scuola di Danza Teatro dell’Opera, right here in Rome. Stepping into this magnificent studio was like stepping back in time, yet brimming with fresh talent. The instructors were demanding, nurturing, and just a bit of fun, and the energy among the students was electric. This class left me energized and inspired, ready to push myself to new limits and embrace my passion for ballet with renewed vigor. I’m telling you, even a girl from Derbyshire can make it to Rome, dance at the Teatro dell'Opera, and then twirl through its enchanting streets. It truly is a magical place, full of the power to inspire dreams and transform lives.

Speaking of magical, it’s simply impossible to come to Rome and not fall in love with the ancient marvels that surround you. Every street corner reveals a historical treasure. The Colosseum, a testament to a bygone era; the Pantheon, an architectural masterpiece bathed in sunlight; the Roman Forum, a poignant reminder of an empire that once spanned the world. And let's not forget the Trevi Fountain, where, with a toss of a coin, we whispered wishes for joy, love, and future ballet triumphs!

Of course, no Pink Tutu adventure would be complete without a little indulgence. Shopping in Rome is like entering a fairytale - opulent fabrics, exquisite craftsmanship, and enough sparkle to dazzle even the most seasoned fashionista! I must confess, I may have acquired a few new gems for my wardrobe, a pair of shimmering gold heels, and a vintage silk scarf to tie into my pink tutu.

Speaking of pink tutus, did I mention I have an ambitious goal in life? I want to see the world in a pink tutu, inspire a global Tutu Revolution, and get everyone, and I mean everyone, twirling and twirling! Now, I might not be able to convert the entire world in one day, but with each pink tutu journey, I get a little closer!

Don't forget to tune in next week for my Pink Tutu Rome post where we will be exploring the Roman Baths, a day in the heart of the Roman Empire, with more fashion, fun, and perhaps a touch of mischief thrown in! Ciao for now, darlings!
