Pink Tutu Rome - Post #726: La Dolce Vita in Pink!

Wednesday, 6th May, 2009

Ciao, darlings!

It's Wednesday, and that means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome update! I'm buzzing after another week of whirlwind adventures in this utterly enchanting city. I truly believe that Rome is the kind of place where a pink tutu is entirely appropriate – the history, the culture, the vibrant streets...it all feels utterly en pointe, you know?

Travelling by Train:

I arrived in Rome yesterday, by train of course! There's just something so romantic and elegant about gliding through the countryside on a high-speed train. The journey was filled with dreamy views of the rolling hills and sun-kissed fields, and I was lost in my own little world of pink tulle and daydreams.

I adore train travel, don't you? The anticipation of arriving somewhere new, the delicious coffee at the little station cafe, and the camaraderie with fellow travellers. And let's not forget the chance to admire the views and jot down a few notes in my trusty pink notebook.

My First Roman Morning

After settling into my adorable little hotel, complete with a balcony overlooking a bustling piazza, I couldn't wait to explore! My trusty pink tote bag was packed with my trusty camera and an oversized vintage map.

The first stop had to be the Trevi Fountain. I couldn't help but twirl in the middle of the square, the sun glinting off the pink tulle of my tutu. It felt as though I was dancing in a fairytale! I, of course, tossed a coin into the fountain, hoping it would grant me my wish for endless tutus and boundless adventures.

Next, it was a stroll through the cobbled streets of Trastevere, with its charming shops and cosy cafes. The air was thick with the scents of freshly baked bread, strong espresso, and something that smelled strangely like vanilla. I could almost taste the gelato, the divine, creamy ice-cream that is a true Roman indulgence.

An Unexpected Ballet Discovery:

And speaking of divine indulgences... the day took a delightful turn when I stumbled upon a little theatre tucked away in a quiet corner of the city. A banner outside caught my eye – a poster with a ballerina dancing on point, a silhouette in perfect ballet pose. My heart skipped a beat! It was a small, independent theatre hosting a ballet showcase.

Oh, the joy of discovering hidden gems in unfamiliar places! My ballerina senses tingled as I dashed inside, eager to lose myself in the grace and beauty of ballet. The show was a stunning collection of short works by emerging choreographers. I sat mesmerized, transported to another world of swirling limbs and graceful pirouettes.

It was just the boost of inspiration I needed to remind myself why I love my pink tutu and my journey to share the beauty of ballet with the world. Maybe, just maybe, the pink tutu revolution has just started. Rome, after all, is known for its captivating beauty, and my journey is about uncovering those hidden gems, the little moments of joy that life offers.

An Evening of Fashion & Flair

After the show, I treated myself to an extravagant dinner at a rooftop restaurant with views that rivaled the Colosseum. It was like something out of a movie, complete with twinkling city lights, the sounds of the city symphony, and the feeling that I was on top of the world. I must say, my pink tutu, with its layers of tulle and glittery details, was the perfect outfit for this very special evening.

After a delicious meal and a few glasses of wine (the Italians really do make a fabulous Chianti!), I found myself drawn to a street corner where a young street artist was performing. It was a performance that mixed ballet with mime, spoken word, and modern dance. It was breathtakingly powerful. The way he moved, the expressions on his face, the way he conveyed a story through his body language... it was a captivating blend of art and performance that truly inspired me.

He ended the show by inviting the audience to join him, and I couldn’t resist! I put my hands on his shoulder and he gracefully dipped me as the streetlamps cast long shadows around us. It was a truly memorable moment! He was a true performer with an undeniable charm, a real-life, dancing prince!

I even managed to have a conversation with him afterwards, learning more about his passion for the art of street performance. He mentioned a similar project in Verona next week, and I may just be inspired enough to see his art come alive in that magical Italian city.

A Bit of Shopping, a Lot of Charm

The next morning, I ventured into the city’s vibrant markets, my trusty pink tote bag hanging from my shoulder, and I’m absolutely smitten with Rome. There’s a spirit here, a sense of history and artistic flair that permeates every alleyway and café.

The city feels alive with music, stories, and secrets. The scent of coffee beans hangs in the air as the city stirs, a mix of espresso and history in every street corner.

Of course, my search for more tutus, inspired by this incredible city, began immediately! I found a charming little shop on Via Margutta, overflowing with vibrant colours and playful prints. Imagine a store filled with an assortment of tutus in every imaginable colour. It felt like a pink wonderland, filled with playful charm. I’m adding another delightful pink tutu to my collection!

I can already picture the little black dress with this new creation, and my heart is already bubbling over with outfit ideas! But of course, there's so much more to explore... I can't wait for another day of pink tutu adventures in the heart of Rome.

Until next week, my dear readers, remember that it’s always time for a little pink tulle and a touch of whimsy!

Yours always,

Emma xx
