Buongiorno, darlings! This week, I'm whisking you away to the Eternal City - Rome! I've been dreaming of visiting this magical place for years, and now, with a spring in my step (and a twirl in my tutu!), I'm finally here!
As always, funding my travels through the sheer joy of dance, I landed in Rome straight from a breathtaking performance at the Royal Opera House. My role as the Sugar Plum Fairy in 'The Nutcracker' was a dream come true, and the standing ovation was, well, just divine!
The train journey to Rome was, of course, filled with ballet music, pink-hued thoughts and visions of all the glorious fashion finds that awaited me in the heart of Italy. The moment my train pulled into Roma Termini, I was swept away by a symphony of smells - freshly baked bread, espresso, and that distinctive Italian perfume that makes my nose tingle with delight.
Speaking of delight, my little apartment nestled amongst the narrow cobblestone streets of Trastevere is utterly charming. The sunshine peeks through the ivy climbing the walls, the scent of jasmine fills the air, and the sound of laughter and chatter drifts in through the window. Oh, darling, I just know this is going to be the most fabulous week of my life!
Rome's Artistic Heart
Before I embark on my day of exploring the Colosseum and Pantheon, let me tell you, my first port of call, naturally, was a visit to the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. I am just besotted with Italian opera – the passionate voices, the grand emotions, the stunning costumes! Oh, to have a little Italian theatre right here in Derbyshire...one day! I snagged a program signed by the very conductor himself. And wouldn't you know it, the lead ballerina in tonight's production of 'La Traviata' is actually wearing a gorgeous pale pink tutu – just imagine! Talk about synchronicity, darlings.
Pink Tutu Adventures
I simply had to wear my signature pink tutu to visit the Spanish Steps! After all, it’s just the place to strut your stuff, darling. And Rome, bless its cotton socks, didn't disappoint. Imagine, standing on those beautiful, cascading steps, the sun on my face, the gelato melting in my hand, and the sound of Italian guitar music serenading the crowd. All while wearing my tulle masterpiece, naturally! It's truly an iconic moment I'll never forget. The photo shoot will be in my next blog post – can’t wait for you to see it, darling!
Tutu Chic: Roman Style
Every fashionista worth their salt knows Rome is the ultimate place to be for all things stylish! The streets are overflowing with the most divine clothing boutiques. I spotted a divine pink silk scarf with an exquisite rose design that perfectly complements my latest tutu. A must-have, darling!
Pasta, Pizza, and a Pinch of Prosecco
Let’s be real – no trip to Italy is complete without indulging in their culinary delights! I've already sampled the most decadent pizza, pasta, and gelato that make my taste buds dance with joy. It was divine – you know, one of those experiences where you close your eyes, sigh, and say, “Life doesn't get much better than this, darling!”
And of course, no evening in Rome would be complete without a glass of prosecco, sipped beneath the twinkling lights of a beautiful trattoria, followed by a moonlit walk along the Tiber.
From Derbyshire to Rome:
As I stroll through the cobbled streets of Trastevere, I can’t help but be struck by the profound difference between Derbyshire and Rome. From the rolling hills of the Peak District to the sprawling, ancient streets of the Eternal City. I feel like a true globetrotter, and you can be sure that this little ballerina will be experiencing all that Rome has to offer.
