Pink Tutu Rome: #734 – La Dolce Vita in a Pink Tutu! 🩰🇮🇹
Wednesday, 1st July 2009
Ciao bella!
Welcome back to Pink Tutu Rome, my weekly slice of Italian sunshine served with a generous dollop of pink frosting! This week I’m positively bursting with excitement, as I’ve just landed in Rome – the Eternal City! It’s already exceeding all expectations, with its stunning architecture, delicious smells of pasta and pizza wafting down every cobblestone street, and, most importantly, an abundance of fabulously fashionable people!
I know, I know, travelling around Europe is quite the luxury for a ballerina with only a trusty tutu and my love of performance for currency! But as I always say, where there’s a pink tutu, there’s a way. Thankfully, my schedule is jam-packed with delightful gigs: a ballet show in Florence last week, a couple of street performances in Verona, and even a fabulous opportunity to teach ballet to some enthusiastic youngsters in Milan – it’s been an absolute whirlwind!
And the best part? Every performance, every applause, every “Bravo!” brings me closer to achieving my dream of sharing my love of pink tutus with the entire world! Imagine a world filled with the twirling and joy of ballet, a world where everyone gets to feel that beautiful lightness and freedom...it's my mission to bring that vision to life.
But back to Rome! I have to say, the train journey from Florence was absolutely divine. Imagine it – me, perched in a corner seat, clutching a fluffy pink tote bag stuffed with tutus, notebooks, and a whole arsenal of lip glosses (you never know!), and gazing out at the rolling green hills and shimmering turquoise waters of Tuscany. Pure magic, darling!
Of course, the real magic kicked in when I arrived in Rome. The Termini station itself was like a dream: grand vaulted ceilings, marble floors that could give you a good shoe polish, and a truly impressive collection of fashion-forward folk. It felt like I’d just stepped into an old Italian movie!
Immediately, I decided to treat myself to some shopping therapy. Honestly, my love affair with Italian fashion knows no bounds. I just adore the style – it's so effortlessly elegant and chic. I snagged myself the most stunning silk scarf in a gorgeous shade of coral pink with a delicate floral pattern and a pair of handmade leather ballet shoes with a subtle pink trim, just perfect for navigating those Roman cobblestones.
Speaking of cobblestones, I’ve already taken a tour around some of the main attractions. And boy, oh boy, Rome truly is a sight to behold! The Colosseum! The Roman Forum! The Pantheon! And let’s not forget the Trevi Fountain, where I'm planning on tossing in a couple of coins, one for a ballet performance under the Tuscan stars and another to guarantee a happy pink-tutu-filled future!
After a delicious lunch of pasta carbonara and a glass of chilled white wine, I stumbled upon a little artisan shop tucked away in a tiny cobbled street. Imagine my joy when I found the most beautiful hand-painted pink porcelain ballerinas! They were adorable and, just as with everything in Rome, full of character! Naturally, they had to join my ever-growing collection, as a perfect souvenir for Pink Tutu Rome.
This evening I’m planning a little theatrical indulgence: a performance of "La Traviata" at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. I simply cannot wait to see this beautiful operatic tragedy come to life in such an elegant setting. It’s an absolute treat for a ballet-obsessed soul like me!
Of course, a trip to Rome wouldn't be complete without indulging in a delicious scoop (or two!) of gelato. My current obsession? Strawberry gelato – sweet, tart, and undeniably perfect, just like the Eternal City itself.
Keep your eyes peeled for my next blog post on Wednesday, where I’ll be sharing all about my experience at "La Traviata," more fashion finds (because, well, you can never have too much Italian fashion!), and a sneak peek at my plans to spread the pink tutu gospel in this stunning city!
Until then, ciao bella, and remember: life is just a little more magical when you're wearing a pink tutu.
With twirls and kisses,
Emma
