Pink Tutu Rome: #741 - 19th August 2009: Roman Holiday!

Ciao bella!

This is Emma from Pink Tutu, writing to you live from Rome, Italy! Can you believe it? I’m finally here, the Eternal City, the City of Seven Hills!

As soon as the Eurostar pulled into Roma Termini station I knew I was in for a treat. I love train travel, especially in Europe, where you’re whizzing through fields and quaint villages. The rhythm of the rails, the gentle swaying, it's all so calming. And when you arrive in a new city? Pure magic!

Now, if you follow me on my social media, you'll know that Rome is a dream location for me. Not only is it bursting with history and culture (and gelato!), but it's also a fashion capital. I can already picture myself browsing the chic boutiques and imagining how fabulous my new pink tutu will look with those classic Italian designs!

Speaking of fabulousness, I landed in Rome just in time for a show-stopping event - the Opera! I mean, who needs an orchestra when you've got the colosseum, right? It was a performance of Puccini’s La Bohème at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, and it was truly spectacular! The energy was electrifying, the voices soaring, the whole experience left me completely breathless (and not just from the humidity). The orchestra was sensational, the singers even more so, and the sheer beauty of the opera house just took my breath away!

Before the opera, I indulged in a pre-show dinner at a quaint little restaurant nestled amongst the bustling cobbled streets of Rome. The setting was magical: flickering candles, twinkling fairy lights, and the delicious aroma of freshly-baked bread wafting in the air. I started with some bruschetta and then devoured a divine seafood pasta. Don’t get me wrong, my diet's strict when I’m touring with a performance, but, a girl needs a break, especially when surrounded by such delicious Italian cuisine!

Later, as I walked back to my hotel, I was serenaded by street performers - the passion in their music, their love for Rome, it all just got me. Rome at night was enchanting - the twinkling lights, the echoing voices of locals, the charm of the cobblestone streets…it felt like I'd stepped into a fairytale.

After all that, I hit the hay (a pretty pink feather bed with matching pink sheets, by the way, you just know it had to happen!).

Tomorrow, it’s all about exploring. The Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Vatican, all on the agenda. And let’s not forget a little fashion therapy! I need to scout out some amazing local boutiques and maybe even get myself a pair of those fabulous Italian boots I’ve had my eye on. You know, for the ultimate pink tutu outfit!

I’ll be posting photos and updates all week. Don’t forget to follow me on Pink Tutu's Facebook and Instagram (@PinkTutu.com) and remember: it’s not just about pink, it's about celebrating the power and joy of expressing ourselves, even in a pink tutu!

Keep dancing and keep sparkling!

Emma x
