Pink Tutu Rome: Post #755 – November 25th, 2009: La Dolce Vita, Ballerina Style!
Ciao bella! It’s Emma here, back with another post from the dazzling, glamorous city of Rome! As you all know, I'm a bit of a train buff, and getting to Rome by rail was an absolute dream. Snuggled up in my tutu-friendly seat (with a bit of extra space for my pointe shoes, of course!), I soaked in the views of the Italian countryside – olive groves, rolling hills, and enough stunning architecture to leave even the most seasoned fashionista in awe.
This week's adventure in Rome has been all about embracing that legendary 'la dolce vita' lifestyle – a mix of captivating history, indulgent food, and, of course, a whole lot of pink tutu magic.
Rome: The City of History (and Shopping)Honestly, every corner you turn in Rome feels like stepping into a history textbook. The Colosseum! The Trevi Fountain! The Pantheon! You've probably seen it all on Instagram a million times, but nothing compares to experiencing it in person. I felt like I was being whisked away to Ancient Rome with each step – the grand marble structures, the echoing whispers of the past, even the smell of freshly baked focaccia made it all feel so real.
Of course, any trip to Rome isn’t complete without a dose of shopping! There's so much gorgeous fashion here - from vintage finds tucked away in little alleyways to designer boutiques in Piazza di Spagna. I even managed to snag a divine pink lace bolero that's going to look fabulous with my pink tutu for the upcoming Christmas performances in Derbyshire.
Food, Glorious Food!Let's talk about the food! Oh my word, Rome has utterly spoiled my taste buds. The pizzas here are next level – fresh ingredients, crisp crusts, and the most delicious mozzarella I've ever had! I’ve been having a bit of a love affair with pasta too. Did you know they have hundreds of different types? The creamy Carbonara, the tangy Pesto alla Genovese, even the humble spaghetti alle vongole with its burst of salty, briny flavour – my inner foodie is in heaven!
La Traviata and a Pink Tutu TwistThis week I also managed to snag tickets to see a live performance of La Traviata at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Now, everyone knows I adore opera, and it was truly a privilege to witness the passion and the beauty of this iconic work unfold in such a breathtaking venue.
You wouldn't believe the reaction I got when I wore my pink tutu to the opera! Heads turned, smiles widened, and I even had a little girl come up to me and tell me she wants to be a ballerina like me when she grows up! You can’t tell me that pink tutus don’t make the world a more magical place.
My Rome Style JournalSpeaking of fashion, let's talk about what I've been rocking in Rome!
Look 1: Classic Ballerina Charm: Pink tutu, of course! I paired it with a cream-coloured silk blouse with a ruffled neckline. A delicate gold chain and my trusty pointe shoes finished off the look. This outfit was perfect for strolling around the Roman Forum, feeling every bit the elegant, timeless ballerina.
Look 2: Italian Chic: For an evening exploring Trastevere, I went for a bold crimson scarf tied around my neck, a black lace top that hugged my curves just right, and black, knee-high boots. It felt a bit Parisian, a bit Italian, and undeniably stylish.
Look 3: La Dolce Vita, Tutu Style: To experience the romance of a Roman sunset overlooking the Tiber River, I put on a floaty pink dress that fluttered in the breeze. I finished the look with my sparkly ballet flats, a touch of pink blush on my cheeks, and of course, my pink tutu tucked inside my handbag, ready to be unveiled for a spontaneous dance move or two.
My Pink Tutu Mission: A Roman Holiday! It's clear that the people of Rome have embraced the joy of wearing tutus as much as I have. Everywhere I go, I spot people wearing vibrant colours and having fun with their clothes – they're definitely onto something!
Rome is a place that reminds you to appreciate life, to celebrate its simple pleasures, and to express yourself through whatever makes you happy. And that's what my Pink Tutu mission is all about - to share the joy of colour, confidence, and embracing your inner ballerina with everyone.
Next week, I'll be sharing more adventures from the city of seven hills! Keep checking in for more Rome stories, fashion finds, and a sprinkle of pink tutu magic!
Until then, keep twirling, and always remember – it’s never too late to unleash your inner ballerina.
XOXO
Emma
