Pink Tutu Rome #756: A Ballerina's Roman Holiday

Ciao Bella! It's Emma, back from a whirlwind week in the Eternal City, and let me tell you, this week in Rome was practically made for pink tutus!

(But, of course, it’s always tutu season for a girl like me, you know what I mean? 😉)

As you lovely lot know, every Wednesday I write you from a different corner of the world – today it’s sunny, dusty Rome, where I’ve been exploring the history, the food, and most importantly, the fashion.

Now, it wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu blog without a bit of an update on my performance schedule! Before heading to Rome, I was in Florence doing a special ballet performance for a beautiful charity fundraiser. My solo routine with a few cheeky, fun-filled turns and leaps certainly wowed the audience - those Italian gentlemen sure do appreciate a pair of pretty legs! I'm off to London next week to showcase my 'Spring Waltz' routine, a whimsical story in movement that's perfect for this time of year. If you're in town, do come and say hello, I'd love to catch up!

Rome, Roman Holiday!

But let’s get back to my Roman adventure. I arrived by train from Florence – I can’t get enough of that European rail system, so romantic and scenic – and arrived in Rome feeling like a glamorous time traveller transported straight to the heart of a historical masterpiece. I was welcomed with open arms (well, actually a chilly mist and some grumpy Italians trying to hail a cab, but you know what, it all adds to the drama! 😜).

My little pink suitcase (a bargain from Primark, no less!), containing a gorgeous new lilac satin tutu, felt at home in Rome, surrounded by all those stunning colours.

Discovering the Colosseum and Ancient Roman Chic

The Colosseum, oh my! This majestic structure, so steeped in history and legend, felt like the stage for my very own gladiatorial ballet performance. Just imagine: Tutus and swords, dancers battling against the elements and the roar of the Roman crowd... a magnificent story! (I need to jot that idea down! Think a contemporary ballet with a twist on the historical – a ballet set in ancient Rome. I'm onto something!)

That’s my style - taking inspiration from wherever I am. So, while I'm in Rome, I've got a Roman style spin to my outfits. Think bold, geometric shapes with luxurious silk scarves and a bit of glitter! My little pink tutu doesn't feel out of place, just a splash of modern whimsy in a historical setting.

The ancient ruins were my first stop - exploring them was a bit like venturing through the dusty backstage of a historical theatre, full of forgotten stories. I can practically hear the whispered echoes of applause from a thousand years ago.

And the Forum - another must-see in Rome - was absolutely incredible. The open-air spaces felt like a grand stage bathed in sunlight, perfect for a theatrical performance! And that feeling of ancient magic hanging in the air, a bit of it spilled over into my outfits. My little pink tutu was a great touch to the classic, roman chic looks, all draped silhouettes and intricate detail.

A Foodie's Delight, Pastries and Fashion

Now, let's talk about the food – because that’s what makes Rome truly special! And oh my goodness, where do I even start?

I can't even begin to describe the pastries, they were so light and fluffy. From delicate tiramisu to flaky, buttery croissants (a girl's gotta keep her energy up for dancing!) – everything tasted like it was baked in the sunshine.

And the pasta, of course! The carbonara was so creamy and rich, every bite a little taste of heaven. I managed to have at least two plates every night (and don't get me started on the gelato! 😉). I've even learned a few simple Italian dishes from a friendly chef. The whole "farm to table" experience feels incredibly wholesome.

But let's not forget fashion - because Rome's a fashion haven! So many designer stores lined the streets - and I mean lined! You wouldn't believe some of the shops, they looked like fairytale palaces overflowing with glittery glamour. There's just a certain style in Rome. Every corner felt like a catwalk, filled with chic locals dressed to impress - which was such a welcome change from the sweats and leggings back home! (But hey, every girl deserves a comfy day!)

Opera at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma

One of my favourite parts of the trip was experiencing the magic of the opera at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. A full night of opera - the dramatic performance, the ornate décor of the theatre - just fantastic! It really is a perfect expression of beauty and passion.

For my evening at the Opera, I went for a sleek, elegant look with my trusty little pink tutu (I know you are all expecting it!) as a highlight - you know I've got to add that pink magic touch.

There I was, seated in the red plush seats with a little pink sparkle adding a touch of Derbyshire flair! You never know, maybe my ballet days will bring me back here someday to perform a choreographed solo for an operatic masterpiece.

I truly do have dreams, darling, dreams of waltzing with angels on grand Italian stages…

### Rome: A City That Inspired

Well, Rome, you have captured my heart, and left a sprinkle of your Italian magic on my wardrobe, my ballet steps, and my dreams! (Let's just say I brought back some incredible fabric and design ideas for my upcoming projects).

Next Wednesday, my pink tutus are ready for the City of Lights - Paris. Be right back, babes! 😉
