Ciao bellas! It's Emma, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, and this week, I'm channeling my inner Roman goddess, even though my wardrobe is still resolutely tutu-focused! I've traded the Derbyshire hills for the rolling Italian countryside, whizzing through on the sleek, shiny Eurostar - my favourite way to travel, so civilised and glamorous. Let me tell you, darling, there's something about the sheer joy of being tucked into a train seat, gazing out at the changing scenery and scribbling down ideas in my pink-glitter notebook... inspiration strikes!
Rome, you're breathtaking. From the moment I stepped out of the station, I knew this city was going to steal my heart. Every corner bursts with history, the air is filled with the aroma of fresh pasta and coffee, and everyone walks with such stylish flair, even the pigeons seem to have an air of nonchalant cool. Of course, this being a #PinkTutuRome blog, I haven't quite managed to blend in with the local chic. But who needs to blend when you can stand out like a flamboyant, pink-hued flamingo amidst a sea of grey pigeons?
First Things First: Fashion!
One thing I've realised on this trip is that the Romans take fashion very seriously. Forget about being understated! Here, it's all about vibrant colours, bold prints, and statement jewellery. I've already spied some incredible vintage shops - the perfect hunting ground for statement necklaces, flamboyant scarves, and maybe even a fabulous fur stole. Speaking of which, my fellow fashionistas, has anyone noticed how well-dressed Italian women manage to make even fur look elegant? There's something about the Italian style that embraces colour, texture, and personality - something that resonates deeply with a pink tutu aficionado like myself!
My Roman Itinerary
My aim is to conquer Rome in pink! Well, I may not wear a tutu for every single excursion, although let's be honest, the thought is seriously tempting. But the colour pink will most definitely make an appearance, along with a healthy dose of fashion, culture, and gelato (it wouldn't be Italy without it!).
Today, I'm venturing to the Vatican, an experience I've been looking forward to for months! There's a special ballet exhibition at the Vatican Museum focusing on Renaissance art, showcasing the beautiful movement and grace captured by great artists. How thrilling is that? Of course, I wouldn't miss the Sistine Chapel, and let's not forget the glorious St. Peter's Basilica itself - a testament to the power of art and belief.
Pink Tutu Travels Tip
My fellow ballet enthusiasts, when you’re planning your own Rome escapade, be sure to check out the calendar at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. They have a full programme of ballet and opera, which is a ballet girl's dream! My darling, it doesn't get much more elegant than an evening of opera at Teatro dell’Opera – expect a performance filled with soaring melodies, fabulous costumes, and a touch of sheer, luxurious romance!
Dinner in the Eternal City
This evening, I'm savouring authentic Italian flavours with a delicious dinner in the heart of Trastevere. This cobbled neighbourhood feels alive with warmth and chatter, a beautiful backdrop for a leisurely dinner with freshly baked bread, the tastiest pasta imaginable, and a glass of delicious red wine. What else could you possibly ask for? Maybe just a little extra cheese!
My #PinkTutuRome Musings
Rome is a city where past and present blend effortlessly, where every corner reveals a new wonder. I've been mesmerised by the Colosseum's powerful presence, felt the vibrant energy of the Campo de' Fiori market, and gazed upon the magnificence of the Pantheon with its breathtaking dome. It's a place where history comes alive and imagination takes flight, reminding us of the timeless beauty that art, music, and culture can bring to our lives.
I know my little pink tutu might stand out in the Eternal City, but hey, isn't it about celebrating our individualities? That's why I believe everyone deserves to twirl around in a pink tutu at least once in their lives. You never know, it just might inspire a little bit of magic and bring a smile to everyone’s face.
