Pink Tutu Rome: Week 770 – Whirlwind of Romance and Pasta!

Ciao bellas!

This week’s adventures have been absolutely bursting with pink-tinted magic. The cobbled streets of Rome have been a dream come true for this tutu-clad traveller, and let me tell you, Rome just might have stolen my heart!

From the moment I stepped onto the sleek, modern Italian train in Derbyshire, I knew I was in for a treat. A fellow ballet enthusiast on board even complemented my pink tutu, which is always a wonderful boost to a travelling ballerina!

Train Tracks to Trevi Fountains

There's something truly captivating about watching the world rush past your window on a train journey. The vibrant landscapes, quaint villages, and bustling cities paint a masterpiece in motion. This train trip was no exception.

As I settled into my seat, I put on my trusty headphones and started on a soundtrack of classic Italian opera music. My journey to Rome felt like an elaborate scene from a movie, one I'd have happily paid to see on a giant screen. It made me dream of an extraordinary stage performance featuring intricate choreography set against breathtaking Italian backdrops – one I may just have to plan for the future!

Speaking of dreams, the arrival in Rome was just like that. From the moment I stepped off the train, the warm Roman air enveloped me like a luxurious cashmere scarf, a comforting hug for this tutu-wearing traveller after the blustery English winds.

A Parisian Dream Come True (Well, almost!)

As I settled into my charming little guesthouse just steps away from the vibrant Trastevere, a sweet elderly Italian woman, a former ballerina herself, handed me a glass of homemade limoncello. The warm Italian hospitality was instant.

My room, oh my, was everything I’d ever wished for and more! It felt like stepping into a scene from my favourite Parisian romantic comedies - delicate floral curtains, a crisp white iron bed, and a beautiful view of the city’s terracotta rooftops bathed in golden sunlight. My heart sang.

This perfect haven made me want to put on my most frilly tutu and twirl in front of the mirror! My travel companions: a pair of ruby red sparkly ballerina shoes and a gorgeous silk pink shawl, sat perfectly by my suitcase waiting to join in the fun!

Rome in Rose-tinted Glasses

I couldn't wait to get out and explore! After a hearty breakfast at a nearby café (and oh, those delicious pastries - each one was a masterpiece!), I set off into the heart of Rome, a place brimming with history and, naturally, captivating fashion.

My first stop: the Trevi Fountain. The magnificence of it left me breathless! Imagine: cascading water flowing down ancient marble, and people tossing coins into the fountain, wishing upon a star - it’s just the kind of magical moment you imagine when you picture Rome.

I had to strike a pose of course! I whipped out my phone and a passer-by kindly snapped a shot of me with my favourite pink tutu twirling in front of the shimmering water, with the Colosseum majestically in the background.

Fashionable Fun in Rome's Designer Heaven

Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without a shopping spree! It seemed everyone here was beautifully dressed. The fashion sense of the Italians is so effortless yet stylish. From bold print dresses to flowing skirts and perfectly tailored suits, there was such an amazing mix of chicness. Rome has an unmistakable allure when it comes to style.

As I ventured through the cobbled streets, I fell in love with the independent designer boutiques. They were overflowing with beautiful vintage items, intricate jewelry, unique hand-made shoes, and accessories that could be a pink tutu’s best friend.

Oh, La La, La Dolce Vita!

By this point, my stomach was starting to rumble with the promise of delicious Italian food! Rome, I discovered, was a food lover's paradise.

The flavours of Italy were absolutely intoxicating! Fresh mozzarella and tomatoes drizzled with fragrant basil oil, hand-rolled pasta served with a rich bolognese sauce, the aroma of freshly baked bread wafting from every bakery - It was truly a culinary experience to be savoured.

And I discovered, much to my delight, the pinkest gelato! A sweet pink sorbet topped with strawberry sauce became a daily ritual.

An Evening Under Roman Skies

As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in vibrant shades of orange and pink, I felt a wave of exhilaration. This feeling of awe, and a little bit of pink-hued magic, is exactly why I love travelling, exploring, and experiencing new cultures through a ballerina’s eye.

I spent the evening at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Watching a passionate ballet performance under the Roman sky felt truly special, even in the presence of some serious fashionista in exquisite ball gowns.

A Pink Tutu Promise

Before I head back to the UK, I promise to share all the pink tutu fashion finds, my favourite Roman eateries, and my top picks for experiencing the ballet culture in this enchanting city.
