Pink Tutu Rome: #777 - Ciao Bella, Rome!
Wednesday 2010-04-28
Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing, travel-obsessed ballerina, Emma, back with another exciting post from the Eternal City – Rome!
Oh my, Rome! I've always dreamt of coming here, ever since I read about it in that old dusty history book in the school library (yes, I was a little bit of a bookworm!). The Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Vatican City, all these incredible landmarks!
This week, I arrived in style, of course, with a dazzling pink tutu perfectly paired with a cherry-red vintage beret – a Parisian touch for my Roman adventure! You know me, I can't go anywhere without my signature twirl!
As you know, I fund my travels by dancing! I managed to land a few gigs in Derbyshire last week, performing some new routines I'd been working on. The audiences absolutely loved it! You should have seen the faces on the kids when they saw me dancing!
Anyway, onto Rome! Let me tell you, I have had the most magical few days! The first thing I did after arriving at Termini station was hop on a train to visit the Colosseum! Talk about impressive! I mean, can you imagine the gladiators fighting right there?! And it felt so ancient! I even managed to get a photo of myself twirling in front of the Colosseum in my pink tutu. A little bit of ballet for a Roman backdrop, you know!
After a whirlwind of ancient history and sightseeing, I headed back to the heart of the city, where I discovered a hidden gem – the Museo Nazionale del Teatro. This fabulous museum is dedicated to the history of Italian theatre and features costumes, set designs, and even some incredible ballet costumes! Talk about inspiring!
Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without a visit to the Vatican. I wandered through St. Peter’s Square, admiring the majestic architecture. The scale of everything just blows your mind! I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe, a deep respect for the history that unfolds all around you.
For lunch today, I treated myself to some delicious Italian gelato - pistachio and hazelnut! The flavours were out of this world! And as I was strolling around, I spotted a vintage clothes shop with the most beautiful selection of dresses – so many pastel pink colours, I was in heaven! Of course, I just had to try a few on. Imagine a pink vintage dress, a delicate lace shawl, a pink tutu underneath, and some elegant pearl earrings, oh darling, it was a true pink-tutu fashion dream come true!
In the evening, I booked myself into a spectacular show – Romeo and Juliet by the Ballet Company of Rome! It was an amazing experience, The dancers were phenomenal! They moved with such grace and passion, bringing the story of Romeo and Juliet to life right before my eyes! Of course, I felt right at home. This time, it wasn’t just about the twirls, but about the whole magic of the art form – the story, the music, the performance! It was magical!
Later, as I strolled back to my hotel, I saw the Colosseum again, glowing in the moonlight. And as I put my tutu back in my suitcase, I thought about the ancient world and the future ahead of me, about bringing ballet and joy to the world, and, yes, I hope, inspiring you all to try wearing a pink tutu at least once in your life!
Rome has a special place in my heart, a city of beauty, passion, and incredible history. I can't wait to explore more of it before I head back to Derbyshire next week, but for now, it’s time to sleep! Ciao Bella, Rome, see you tomorrow!
Stay tuned, darling, and keep your tutus twirling!
Love,
Emma
