Pink Tutu Rome: Week 832 - Bella Roma!

Ciao, darlings! Emma here, back from a whirlwind week in the Eternal City, Rome, for my weekly blog post, brought to you live from my charming little hotel room in Trastevere! This week, the pink tutu travelled in style - by train, of course! It’s such a joy to feel the rumble of the tracks under me and the scenery whizzing past the window.

As always, my pink tutu took centre stage. Let's be honest, it wouldn't be a #PinkTutuRome adventure without my signature garment. But trust me, it wasn’t just any pink tutu this time. No, my darling readers, I’d procured a fabulous, specially tailored creation in the most exquisite shade of dusty rose, a perfect complement to the golden sunshine of Rome.

My Roman adventures began, as they should, with a trip to the Trevi Fountain. Imagine the setting: The majestic, towering fountain, glistening under the afternoon sun, its waters shimmering and splashing in perfect harmony. Now picture this picture perfect setting...with me twirling in my dusty rose tutu, bathed in the sun's glow, my twirling casting sparkling shadows across the historic stone.

"Toss a coin in the fountain, make a wish and turn around." And what was my wish? To continue sharing the pink tutu magic with the world! A toast to that!

Rome, as you might know, is steeped in history and art. From the Colosseum to the Pantheon, from Michelangelo's David to the Sistine Chapel, I felt like I'd been transported into one of my favourite art history textbooks! You see, the thing about pink tutus, and my travels in general, is they make everything feel like a fairy tale. Like the Colosseum is not a crumbling monument, but a stage waiting for a graceful ballet performance. Oh, how I'd love to see a troupe of ballerinas in pink tutus dance amongst the ruins of Rome! Wouldn't that be a spectacular sight?

Now, no trip to Rome would be complete without exploring the wonders of the fashion scene! Shopping is one of my biggest passions, you know, and this city is a fashionista's paradise. So many fabulous shops - think Italian leather boots, exquisite silks and flowing fabrics that just beg to be sewn into fabulous tutu creations! There were moments I was so overcome by the vibrant colours, bold patterns, and chic styles that I swore I was a character in one of those romantic films set in the bustling piazzas of Rome.

Oh! Speaking of the piazzas, let me tell you, I've been to many beautiful cities, but the piazzas in Rome are something else entirely. The architecture, the lively atmosphere, the aroma of delicious food drifting from street cafes and restaurants… It’s truly an experience for the senses. I particularly adored the charming little piazzas tucked away in the cobbled backstreets of Trastevere, a neighbourhood that seems to be frozen in time, filled with cafes, boutiques and artisan shops. It was just my style.

Talking of styles, this wouldn’t be a true #PinkTutuRome blog post without mentioning the delectable Italian food scene! I sampled all the classics: pasta dishes so decadent they could melt your heart (and maybe a few pounds!), crispy pizza with toppings that danced on my tastebuds, and mouth-watering gelato (can’t forget the gelato!). You could say my food tour involved me wearing my dusty rose tutu while gracefully trying various flavors of gelato in each gelateria. After all, the only way to truly appreciate the dolce vita is with a twirl.

Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without a dose of opera. Luckily for me, on Wednesday May 18th, I caught the magnificent Carmen by Bizet, starring the celebrated soprano Anna Netrebko. Seeing her glide across the stage with effortless grace and beauty, while she performed one of my favourite operatic masterpieces, brought me to tears. Such pure passion and raw talent! Oh, to be a soprano for a day!

As the sun began to set, I took a leisurely stroll through the bustling heart of Rome, my dusty rose tutu catching the fading light as I went. Every turn was a new discovery, every sight a beautiful surprise.

I couldn't have asked for a better adventure in Rome! The Eternal City was truly enchanting, a kaleidoscope of sights, smells, sounds, and tastes. It’s a city that has stolen a piece of my heart and I am sure, I will be back!

Oh, and don't forget, darlings, pink tutus are ALWAYS welcome in Rome!

With much love and glitter,

Emma xoxo
