Pink Tutu Rome #837: Bonjour from the Eternal City!
Ciao bellas!
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome adventure! This week, I've swapped the cobbled streets of Derbyshire for the ancient, vibrant avenues of Rome, and I'm utterly besotted. It's like stepping straight into a movie set, and the sun is just radiant – the kind that gives you that beautiful golden glow that every girl dreams of.
As you know, I'm a sucker for train travel – the gentle rhythmic chug, the countryside whizzing by, and that exciting sense of anticipation as you reach a new destination. My journey to Rome was a dreamy blur of lavender fields, the peaks of the Alps in the distance, and even a glimpse of the stunning Lake Como (cue internal squeals). It's no surprise I love it so much, seeing as my tutu collection just about fills the train carriage with me!
Speaking of which, today, I'm rocking my new blush pink tutu with a touch of shimmer - the perfect match for this captivating city. You see, Rome's charm isn't just in its architectural marvels (though those are certainly breathtaking!), it's in the little details: the vibrant flower stalls bursting with colours, the tiny cafés filled with lively conversations, the charming trattorias tucked away in side alleys that beckon you in with the promise of delicious food, the street artists showcasing their talents...every corner of Rome is a masterpiece.
This week has been a whirlwind of discovery. I've explored the heart of the Roman Empire – the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Palatine Hill, and oh my, the history that clings to these walls! I was so enthralled, I could almost imagine the gladiatorial combat, the political dramas, and the daily life of the Romans. I even spotted a ballet performance held right in the middle of the Forum - how very, very fitting for this pink-loving tutu-clad girl, don't you think?
Now, let's talk fashion! Italy is a paradise for fashion lovers – each store seems to boast a more elaborate window display than the last, and every corner offers something stylish to tempt your eyes (and your wallet!). It's an explosion of colour, texture, and design – the Italians just have this inherent flair for elegance and artistry. My own wardrobe is rapidly expanding (shh, don't tell my accountant!).
But let's not forget the most important thing: ballet. I couldn't leave Rome without experiencing the magic of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma! I was absolutely mesmerized by a captivating performance of La Bayadère - the costumes were stunning, the dancers exquisite, and the music... oh, the music! I can still hear the enchanting melodies playing in my head. The ballet community in Rome is lively, and I've been lucky enough to meet some incredible dancers, who have given me the most insightful peek into the city's dance scene. The energy here is infectious, and the passion for ballet truly shines through.
This week's post is a bit of a shorter one, my lovelies, as I've been absolutely lost in the wonders of Rome! But don't worry, there will be plenty more to share in the weeks to come - think street performances, more delectable treats (the Italian gelato is heavenly), and even more inspiring outfits. Stay tuned, darlings, as the Pink Tutu Roman adventure is just getting started!
And remember, never underestimate the power of a pink tutu – it can take you anywhere! I can't wait to hear about your own Pink Tutu adventures – let's continue spreading the love of ballet, fashion, and adventure with our little twirls around the globe.
Ciao bella,
Emma xx
P.S. For those of you interested in seeing what was on in Rome this week, there were plenty of fun things to choose from:
Concerts: From the Italian indie bands rocking out in trendy bars to opera performances echoing through the magnificent Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Rome has a musical heart. The Auditorium Parco della Musica had an impressive lineup of classical concerts this week.
Art exhibitions: There were some really fascinating exhibitions going on. My eyes are still dancing from the colours and details of "Van Gogh, a Self-Portrait" at the Museo di Roma in Trastevere. The art galleries and museums around Rome never cease to amaze.
Open-air Cinema: As the summer days are getting longer, nothing is more charming than enjoying a film beneath the starry Roman night. A lot of plazas offer free or cheap screenings under the moonlight. It's like being in your own little cinematic dreamland!
Food festivals: Rome, especially in the summer, hosts countless food festivals – an excuse to sample delectable delicacies, indulge in traditional Italian food, and, of course, enjoy some bubbly with good company. This week was especially busy with food festivals in and around the Piazza Navona, where the aromas were simply mouth-watering.
I'll keep you updated with more events happening around the city each week. You know me, always keeping an eye on the best the city has to offer!
