Pink Tutu Rome: Week 850 - Ciao Bella, Rome!
Wednesday, 21st September, 2011
Oh my darling tutus! How do I even begin to tell you about the incredible adventure Iāve had this week?! My train journey from Florence to Rome was, as always, pure bliss. Thereās something magical about chugging through the Italian countryside, watching the world whizz by in a blur of green hills and terracotta rooftops.
I wore, of course, my favourite hot pink tutu, which garnered some rather envious glances from the other passengers. After all, everyone needs a bit of sparkle in their lives, wouldn't you agree? š
Now, I know some of you are wonderingā¦ How on earth does a ballerina afford to travel the world in a pink tutu? Well, the secretās out: itās all thanks to my passion for performance! š©° Every few weeks I grace the stage with my twirling, pirouette-filled talent, and that pays for my exciting adventures! Honestly, itās the most wonderful way to live ā combining my two greatest loves, dance and travel.
Speaking of travel, Rome. Rome! Just the word evokes a sense of magic, of history whispering through centuries-old walls. Iāve spent the past few days immersing myself in this incredible city. Every corner, every piazza is like stepping into a movie set.
I have to share some highlights with you, my sweet tutus:
Colosseum - Where gladiators once battled: Standing before this incredible monument was truly awe-inspiring. I could almost imagine the roars of the crowd, the clash of steel, the smell of sweat and blood. What a wild time that must have been! Luckily, things are a bit calmer now. Although, I do think a ballet performance inside the Colosseum would be divineā¦ Imagine the acoustics! š¤«
Roman Forum - A glimpse into ancient Rome: I'm a complete history nerd (no shame!), and this place is truly something else. Wandering through the ruins, imagining the lives of Roman citizens centuries agoā¦ It was like taking a trip back in time!
Trevi Fountain - Wishes whispered into the water: Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain! I closed my eyes, whispered my wish (don't tell anyone, but it involves a particularly stunning vintage tutu!), and tossed my coin with all the strength of a prima ballerina. Who knows, maybe it will come true!
Spanish Steps - Where fashion reigns supreme: Oh my goodness, darling tutus, the fashion scene in Rome! I mean, talk about fabulous! So many exquisite stores, each more stunning than the last. And the locals? They have a sense of style that just oozes chic. Honestly, I could shop here for days!
Speaking of which, I have a confession to makeā¦ Iāve indulged in some shopping sprees already! The cobbled streets of Rome are full of irresistible designer boutiques. I found a gorgeous new pink feather boa (the perfect accessory for any evening out!), a pair of ruby-red stiletto heels that would make Cinderella weep with envy, and of course, a couple of exquisite silk scarves. What can I say? Rome makes me feel so inspired, my darling tutus.
Ballet performances and enchanting street theatre: My evening was full of beautiful entertainment! The Teatro dellāOpera di Roma is putting on a sensational performance of āLa BohĆØme.ā This show, the costumes, the orchestra - pure artistry!
After the performance, I strolled through the lively Piazza Navona, enjoying the buzz of the crowds and catching a vibrant street theatre performance. Two young men in flamboyant costumes and brightly coloured masks had me laughing till my sides ached. It was such a lovely touch of silliness in this majestic city.
Now, back to the most important thing: pink tutus. I did my best to make my presence known while in Rome. I wore my new blush pink tulle tutu over my favorite red skirt for my morning exploration of the Roman Forum, with a stylish oversized cardigan in case of cooler weather. That afternoon, it was a more casual but pink look, I opted for my lavender-toned tutu with a white lace blouse and my trusty red ballet flats. The streets were filled with glances and some double takes - all part of spreading the pink tutu gospel, of course.
So much has happened this week and itās only Wednesday! I canāt wait to share my remaining adventures with you next week. Ciao for now, darling tutus, until next week's exciting Italian escapade!
