Pink Tutu Rome: Week 871 - La Dolce Vita & a Pinch of Pink!

Ciao, darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing travel enthusiast back with another installment from the fabulous city of Rome! It's Wednesday, so you know what that means - it's time to twirl into another adventure with me!

This week has been all about soaking up the sun, indulging in Italian delicacies, and, of course, spreading the pink tutu gospel across the Eternal City. You wouldn't believe how many friendly smiles I get when I sashay down the cobbled streets of Rome in my favourite tulle skirt. I think theyā€™re even used to me by now. Even the pigeons in Piazza Navona know that I'm here for the pink, and trust me, they wouldn't have it any other way. The cobblestones, they are tough on ballet shoes, so I stick to flat shoes or cute flats whilst in the city, then I wear my gorgeous ballet shoes to my ballet classes. I mean, itā€™s the Roman way!

This week's adventure kicked off with a delightful trip to the Galleria Borghese. Now, you may be thinking, "Emma, youā€™re a ballerina, not an art critic." You'd be right, but trust me, art and dance go hand-in-hand. As I gazed upon Berniniā€™s breathtaking sculptures, I couldnā€™t help but marvel at the raw emotions that sculpted onto marble, a feeling thatā€™s echoed in every graceful pliĆ©. And letā€™s face it, a beautiful gallery needs a beautiful outfit, which I styled with a pale pink cashmere cardigan that perfectly contrasted with my hot pink tutu. (Just a little splash of sunshine!).

No trip to Rome would be complete without experiencing the Trevi Fountain, right? So, naturally, I made my way there. As I tossed my coins (you know the drill: one for good luck, one for love) into the turquoise waters, I dreamt of returning to Rome one day - with a full tutu repertoire for a performance at the Roman Colosseum! Don't laugh! The dream is alive, darling, the dream is alive! The energy in this city just feeds my creative spirit! The sheer vibrancy of the ancient ruins with the chicness of modern Roman fashion, the cobbled streets buzzing with motor scooters and friendly chatter... Oh, the stories they could tell!

After all that cultural exploration, my tummy was calling for something delicious, and naturally, I couldnā€™t resist a pizza at the Campo de' Fiori market. Have you tried the pizzas here? Divine! And a tutu-tastic setting! Picture it: the setting sun casting a warm glow over the market stalls overflowing with fragrant blooms, the aroma of freshly baked bread filling the air, and, of course, the star of the show: a giant pizza made just for me, complete with all my favourite toppings. A moment of absolute bliss!

For a break from the hustle and bustle, I took a serene afternoon wandering through the Villa Borghese Gardens. Now, picture this: I was strolling amidst the beautifully manicured lawns, taking in the calming scent of freshly blooming roses, while gracefully executing a pirouette in front of the magnificent Fountain of the Triton (it's a little bit extra, I know, but you must try it!). And, oh darling, it was so magical! It's not everyday that you get to dance with the Roman Gods! I felt a deep connection with the past, imagining Roman Goddesses frolicking through these very same gardens.

But, no visit to Italy is complete without a little shopping spree, donā€™t you agree? So, I spent the afternoon exploring the cobbled streets, browsing boutiques that made my pink heart flutter. Imagine a gorgeous silk scarf, shimmering with pink and white florals - absolute perfection, I thought. That scarf went straight into my suitcase (along with several more!), just like that, I fell in love. I felt a sense of connection with this beautiful city, a feeling like it could hold my hand and say ā€˜Darling, we understand you and love the way you love to shopā€™ . This city truly understands me, like I understand its rich history and charm, a true, twirling-worthy connection!

Now, I must confess, one of my biggest discoveries of this trip was a delightful little cafĆ© nestled away in Trastevere. It was a vintage haven, dripping with charming pink decorations! Imagine vintage pink chairs and floral wallpaper, a bohemian vibe that screamed pink tutus. The owner, a friendly local woman, immediately understood my love for the colour pink. (And whatā€™s better, she loves tutus too!) We talked for hours over freshly brewed cappuccino - she told me stories of old-world charm, of Roman secrets, and we planned a collaboration, because in true tutu spirit, weā€™ll be having a fashion show, with tutus! This trip, darling, has been like a whimsical pink dream come true. Just imagine the images; beautiful Roman girls with their unique charm twirling in delicate tutus! Oh la la! Itā€™s giving ā€œAlice in Wonderland, meets Roman History, with a sprinkle of pinkā€ and let me tell you, Iā€™m here for it!

Tonight, my darling, I'll be heading to a magical opera performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and Iā€™ll be sporting a custom-designed, full-length tulle tutu! I simply can't wait to be mesmerized by the powerful vocals, the dramatic movements and the timeless beauty of Italian Opera!

But for now, itā€™s time for me to head back to my gorgeous hotel room (can you imagine how many pink velvet cushions I have?!) To twirl into my evening outfit - this pink satin gown from a beautiful vintage shop just screams la dolce vita. Until next time, darlings, stay twirling!

Much love,

Emma
