Well, darling readers, it's Wednesday again, which means it's time for a new post on my www.pink-tutu.com website. This week I'm venturing beyond my Derbyshire roots, because I'm in the eternal city, the most beautiful city in the world⌠drum roll Rome!
I arrived on Monday, having had the most glorious train journey. Yes, my darlings, it's still the most magical way to travel, watching the landscape whizz by, getting to know the local train drivers and their stories, and of course, spotting fellow tutus along the way!
Now, I have to say, arriving in Rome in a tutu definitely made for some curious looks! There was one gentleman at the station who seemed to think my pink tutu was some kind of rare species he had never encountered before. He kept glancing at me, then looking away in disbelief, then back at me again! Oh well, just another day for this pink-loving tutu-wearing ballerina, I say.
First Stop: The Colosseum!
Being the theatre-loving girl I am, it was an absolute must that my first stop be at the Colosseum, the very first ârealâ theatre, they say! The sheer scale and magnificence of this ancient amphitheater left me speechless. Can you imagine all the amazing gladiatorial battles and performances that happened within these walls? The thought sent shivers down my spine â shivers of pure, exhilarating excitement, that is. And believe me, it wouldnât have been amiss to pull a little pirouette out there!
After all the ancient magic of the Colosseum, I just had to see if Rome offered any dance lessons. I googled and googled, and voila! A beautiful little ballet studio on Via del Corso, near a delicious trattoria where I plan to have the best pasta of my life.
An Unforgettable Ballet Lesson
Let me tell you, this studio was charming, so chic with the softest lights and big windows. My ballet class was a mixed bunch, with everyone from the grandmothers who live near the studio to young girls about to take their first pointe class. They even had some âboysâ who showed up wearing tiny, cute tutus - how adorable, eh?! I must say, it was absolutely inspirational! They really showed that age or gender canât stop you from loving to twirl. And there I was in the centre, surrounded by these dancers, lost in the music, moving in rhythm to each note. Just a little pink tutu twirling away in Rome, living the dream.
Roman Splendor and Style
Whatâs Rome without a little indulgence, eh? Of course, I had to check out the fashion scene, too. And let me tell you, Rome didnât disappoint. I spent hours meandering through the shops in the beautiful Spanish Steps, admireing all the gorgeous dresses and jewellery - some of which I just couldn't resist! It was all about that chic Italian style, so refined and classic yet so sassy and fun!
Fashion Tips From a Tutu Princess
Now, I donât think Rome is the place for fussy fashion trends. I'm sticking with the basic essentials, darling! A flowing silk dress, a beautiful blouse that you can wear tucked in or out, a chic beret (the Roman streets make them even more delightful, let me tell you), some fab platform sandals - and of course, my trusty tutu. Remember, I'm all about the versatility, my dear! The beauty of the pink tutu is it adds a little âje ne sais quoiâ to every outfit - no matter the style, my dears. And besides, wearing a pink tutu is always a good idea - donât you agree?
This Evening: The Opera
But now, onto tonightâs excitement: the opera! Itâs one of those events that everyone says I must experience in Rome. And tonight, theyâre doing Verdiâs Aida at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Iâve always been a Verdi fan, and after my lovely ballet class, this sounds like the perfect way to spend an evening in this spectacular city. I will, of course, post about my evening with the beautiful music and glamorous costumes, as soon as I get back to my hotel room. Now, off I go, my dears! Time to get dolled up and head to the Opera!
Stay tuned for my next post. And please, my loves, don't forget to check out www.pink-tutu.com, follow me on Instagram @PinkTutuBlogger, and share your adventures in pink with the #PinkTutuLife.
See you next week, and have a wonderful time!
Ciao from Emma
*PS: *Remember, lifeâs too short not to twirl in a pink tutu! Now, go and do it!
