Pink Tutu Rome: Post 908 - A Dance Through the Eternal City!
Ciao bella! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome adventure! I'm currently writing this from a charming cafe in the heart of Rome, surrounded by the aroma of freshly brewed espresso and the delightful chatter of locals. I've just finished exploring the Colosseum, a truly awe-inspiring feat of engineering, and I'm buzzing with the energy of this incredible city!
This week, I've decided to share my adventures in Rome with you all. This trip marks my first time in the Eternal City, and I'm utterly smitten. It’s a true feast for the senses, a vibrant kaleidoscope of history, culture, and – my favourite – fashion! And what better way to embrace Rome's romantic essence than by twirling around in my beloved pink tutu, right?
Speaking of tutus, I found the most adorable vintage tutu shop tucked away in Trastevere yesterday. It was bursting with colourful tulle and sparkly embellishments! I even found a stunning peach tutu that will be making a guest appearance in my next performance in Derbyshire! My Derbyshire tutu-loving friends just wait and see, I’m thinking “Swan Lake” meets Roman Holiday, it’s going to be magical!
Now, a little about me: you might already know this, but I’m Emma, a young ballerina from Derbyshire, England, and this blog, Pink Tutu (www.pink-tutu.com) is my online haven for all things pretty, girly, and – yes, you guessed it – tutu-licious!
This trip was partially funded by a wonderful performance I gave a couple of weeks back at the Theatre Royal in Nottingham. It was a ballet adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. You'll never guess what, I was Juliet! Performing on stage is one of my favourite things, and this production was extra special, even for me, because the whole cast was in beautiful pink tutus.
Talking of performing, I’m thrilled to tell you that I will be performing next week in a fabulous street performance in my hometown, Matlock. So if you’re in Derbyshire on 1st November, come find me on the main street, I'm planning to choreograph something truly magical. Think graceful leaps with a touch of Roman flair.
This is my tenth Rome post and it's already turning into a favourite. The vibrant energy here is contagious. Today I spent the morning learning some salsa moves at a street performance, a far cry from my usual ballet steps but equally exhilarating. I'm even tempted to try the Tango next – wouldn’t that look amazing in a tutu?!
Anyway, where was I? Oh, yes, the city! Rome is a whirlwind of stunning sights. Today I was particularly enamoured by the Pantheon. It’s a breath-taking temple with a magnificent open dome – I can’t imagine what the architects back then had in mind! They sure weren't thinking “pink tutus”! Although it could look stunning in one, now that I think of it.
I spent the afternoon in the Trevi Fountain, a breathtaking masterpiece. After throwing in my coin, I twirled, naturally! I must have been a spectacle for passers-by, but let's be honest, who doesn’t love a twirling pink tutu by a fountain? I believe they all appreciated it, maybe a little envious! I can already hear those tutus on order, see, it’s contagious.
Did you know? 31st October in Rome is Festa dei Santi Martiri Romani a day dedicated to celebrating the holy Roman Martyrs. The streets will be filled with religious parades and festivities. There is also a lively food festival, Festa delle Olive, and a stunning light show at the Colosseum that I just can't wait to see. It should be truly magnificent! I’m off to see what a pink tutu looks like illuminated under the Colosseum spotlights, and of course, a delicious pizza on the way back!
Well, my lovely readers, my Roman adventure is far from over! There's still so much to explore: the Borghese Gallery, a captivating art haven; the Galleria Doria Pamphilj, overflowing with historical treasures; and the Spanish Steps, where I'm sure I'll be tempted by some fabulously stylish designer finds.
Speaking of stylish finds, I'm dying to tell you all about the beautiful Roman designer dresses I found at a fabulous vintage store just outside the Pantheon! Oh, the fabrics, the colours – absolutely heavenly!
But my Rome adventure wouldn't be complete without indulging in the exquisite Roman cuisine! I’ve already devoured pasta carbonara, fresh gelato, and a perfectly brewed cappuccino. Tomorrow, I’m aiming for tiramisu!
Of course, no trip to Italy is complete without a glass or two of the region's finest wines. I'm particularly excited to try some of the local Brunello di Montalcino, a deep, full-bodied red wine, later tonight!
While the flavours are to die for, the fashion here is equally tantalising. My days are filled with exploring designer boutiques, antique shops, and independent shops – looking for inspiration for my next blog post, or maybe a new tutu for my next performance. And it’s all the more fun to do when I have my trusty pink tutu along with me. After all, where would a tutu loving ballerina go without one!
