Pink Tutu Rome #907: Ciao Bella! A Tutu-tiful Tour of the Eternal City!

Hello darlings! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-wearing blogger Emma, and I'm scampering back from a whirlwind tour of the Eternal City! Rome has been utterly spectacular! A symphony of cobblestones, ancient wonders, delicious gelato, and... you guessed it... the most gorgeous pink tutus!

This week, I thought I'd give you a glimpse into my Roman adventure, a travelogue brimming with my usual dose of ballet-inspired charm and sartorial whimsy. So, grab a glass of something bubbly and prepare to be swept away by the magic of Rome!

A Whirlwind Train Ride

You know how much I love travelling by train! The gentle rhythmic sway, the passing scenery, and the air of adventure... it's a perfect symphony of sensations. My journey to Rome was no exception. From the platform in Derbyshire, with my trusty pink duffel bag packed with enough sparkly dresses and twirly tutus for a full-scale ballet, I hopped aboard the train and set off on my Italian odyssey.

A Tutu-ful Welcome

Rome greeted me with open arms... well, at least, my fellow travellers at Termini Station welcomed me with a charming smile. I couldn't help but notice their elegant, sophisticated style. It's true, Italians do fashion better than anyone, I've even spotted some fabulous tutus (though maybe not quite the full pink, yet!). My trusty Pink Tutu blog tote (available in my online store!), naturally, became the centre of attention. I met a group of university students who were utterly fascinated by my travels, and their energy and enthusiasm perfectly mirrored Rome’s.

A Dance With History

First stop? The Colosseum! Stepping back in time in this grand amphitheatre was truly magical. The air hung heavy with the ghosts of gladiators and the echoes of cheers. I could almost imagine myself dancing a ballet on that historic stage. As I imagined swirling and leaping amongst the Roman arches, I felt my creative spirit taking flight. There is truly something inspiring about history! Later, at the Trevi Fountain, the beauty of the artistry was breathtaking. As I tossed my coins (for luck, of course!), I couldn’t help but think about how much the Romans appreciated beauty, just as we do!

Shopping Sprees

Rome is a shopper's paradise! Every narrow alleyway was brimming with handcrafted trinkets, beautifully tailored garments, and divine perfumes. My love for the finer things in life had a field day. I bought a gorgeous velvet cape at a stall near the Pantheon (can't wait to show you!), and a stunning silk scarf adorned with delicate Roman flower designs. It was impossible to leave without at least a handful of new tutu ribbons for my next performance! (Let's face it, one can never have enough pink tutu ribbon!)

Ballet in the City

This trip wouldn't be complete without a taste of local ballet culture. Imagine my joy when I stumbled upon a ballet academy near the Piazza Navona. They had a wonderful "Ballet Under the Stars" open-air performance scheduled that night. There was something wonderfully charming about seeing ballerinas performing under the velvet sky of Rome, a symphony of dance set against the backdrop of centuries-old architecture. Their passion, the beauty of their movements... it left me breathless. They even invited me to a masterclass the next day! The entire atmosphere was contagious, and it fuelled my own ballet ambitions, I can't wait to teach you my new moves. I'll be sure to post some video snippets on my Instagram @PinkTutuBlog so you can get a taste of it all!

Flavours of Rome

Rome's culinary scene is simply exquisite! From creamy gelato, the perfect cure for a hot Italian afternoon, to pasta dishes with flavours that dance on your tongue, it's a true foodie's paradise. (And, my darlings, it's just my little secret, but the pink-hued gelato is the tastiest!). I made it a mission to try a different type of pasta at every meal, and I savoured every last drop of the local wine. Rome, I adore you!

Fashion Focus

Okay, darlings, you know this is my absolute favourite part. Italian style! You already know I love my pink tutus, but I've been swooning over the bold, romantic silhouettes and effortless elegance of Roman style. Flowing floral prints, a dash of shimmer, and always a touch of that je ne sais quoi that sets Italians apart. Even their daywear exudes such effortless charm. The way they throw together simple garments, a splash of color and always with a perfect shoe… I need to teach you how to do that! Maybe a "Roman Style for Tutu-Wearers" guide soon, wouldn't that be fun?

Finding Inspiration

This trip has not only been a delightful whirlwind of sights and sounds but it's ignited a new spark within me, and has fueled my creative fire! You know I love exploring the world with a tutu-shaped lens, and Rome has simply amplified my sense of creativity. I have countless new blog post ideas already bubbling, I'm just waiting for that "Pink Tutu Rome Inspiration" to strike me!
