Pink Tutu Rome: Post 957 - Under the Roman Sun
Wednesday 9th October, 2013
Hello lovelies! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome post! I'm so excited to be back in the Eternal City, basking in the Roman sun and letting my imagination run wild. This week has been all about soaking up the vibrant energy of this magical place.
Rome, my dears, is like stepping into a movie set! Every cobblestone street, every crumbling basilica, every fountain... it’s simply bursting with history and stories waiting to be uncovered. I feel like I’m twirling through centuries with every step.
Yesterday, I decided to start my exploration in the heart of the city. You guessed it, a pink tutu was my chosen attire. Imagine, a twirling ballerina against the backdrop of the Colosseum! I even met a street performer who loved my pinkness! He's a mime with some seriously impressive moves. We did a little improvised ballet in the street. We certainly turned heads!
Speaking of turning heads, I've discovered a fabulous little boutique just off the Via Condotti. The most exquisite shoes! Think elegant ballet pumps in blush and pale pink, satin flats in all the colours of the rainbow, and even some delightful Mary Janes. My feet have been the beneficiaries of some serious pampering this week.
One of the most beautiful things about Rome is its parks. Today, I ventured to Villa Borghese, a sprawling oasis in the middle of the city. Picture it: sun-dappled trees, beautiful sculptures, and an abundance of roses in full bloom. It felt like a scene out of a ballet set. I even caught a glimpse of a charming street performer in a beret and a violin - he played the most beautiful melodies as I twirled under the golden autumn sun.
Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without indulging in a spot of Italian cuisine. Last night, I discovered this charming little trattoria hidden down a side street. It was like stepping into another world – the aroma of fresh basil and garlic was divine. I devoured a delicious spaghetti carbonara – pasta perfection!
One thing that struck me this week, and perhaps it's something you all have experienced too, is that Rome is like a museum that's also alive. You walk past centuries of history and beauty, but at the same time, you feel the rhythm of everyday life, the bustle of a vibrant city.
This evening, I'm planning on seeing a show at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma – it's a real treat for any ballet lover like myself. Imagine: an opulent theatre, the shimmer of chandeliers, and a symphony of classical music. This, my dears, is why I live for travel! To experience new things, to discover new art forms, to dance across different cultures.
But I'll leave you with this: if you're ever feeling down or need a dose of happiness, just remember the magic of a pink tutu. I believe everyone has a bit of a dancer in them. So let’s spread the joy, one pink tutu at a time!

Until next week, keep twirling!
Lots of love,

Extra-Spiced Bits:
Fashion Alert: Did you know that there's a shop near the Pantheon dedicated entirely to silk scarves? It's a silk scarf wonderland! I even found a gorgeous silk scarf adorned with beautiful ballet-themed designs. My outfit will be bursting with colour for my next Roman adventure.
Tutu Tip: If you’re travelling to Rome in October, it can get a bit chilly at night. My travel tip? Pack a lightweight cardigan or shawl in your tote bag for when the air turns cool. That way, you can twirl in your pink tutu and still be comfortable, my dears!
Dance Tip: Feeling inspired to move? Check out the schedule at Rome’s prestigious ballet academy. They offer classes for all levels – you never know, you might find your next dance partner on the dance floor!
